Please post your bike's mileage when the fan ceased to function. If you know the build date of your bike note it too. (Message edited by teeps on September 02, 2007) |

06 Uly, lost fan #1 at 8K miles but it started acting poorly at 6K miles. Fan #2 is still running perfectly with 14K miles on the clock. I suspect that there was so kind of QC or installation problem with the cooling fans on early 06 Ulys. In my case, all things were equal with fans 1 and 2 so #2 should be failing any day now but it still runs perfectly. |

Fan #1 at 900 miles. Fan #2 at 7000 miles. Both fans were still spinning but fan speeds were fluctuating and bearings/bushings very noisy. (Message edited by dentguy on September 02, 2007) |

Dec '05 build date. It failed to run at about 12,000 one time, went into run/skip mode in traffic. Took it to the dealer immediately where it ran fine. It was always rattly noisy and went up in smoke last weekend at 20,300 miles. My dealer had one in stock, it is in and functional. It seems to be a little quieter than the original, but that one had a bad rattle for a long time. |

A bit off topic sorry, but yesterday I took a ride on my other(ujm) bike and stopped for fuel before going home. When I turned it off at the gas station the silence kind of freaked me out! I quickly realized all was okay because it wasn't the uly, but I laughed a little out loud when it happened. Not that I'm paranoid of the fan, just gotten used to it I guess. I thought it was kind of funny. Now if I can just get used to having to put the fuel cap somewhere when filling the uly, the tops of pumps around here are nasty... |

I haven't heard nearly so much about fan failures recently as I used to. Has the problem, whatever it was, been fixed? BTW, I had my fan replaced when the bearings started making noise. I think the build date is Oct 05. I don't remember the mileage. |

27,300 miles. Mine died yesterday, in a very painful sounding manner. It was at the dealer's two weeks ago for the BAS recall, and they ordered a new one and said, "We'll call you when it comes in." Since they're closed today, I'll call them tomorrow. They're not a bad dealership, overall. They've got a good Buell salesman, and a good Parts Manager, and they have at least one competent Buell mechanic, but the attitude of the Service Dept. could use some improvement. |

Build date 9/06. Replaced original fan at 14,645 miles. It began running erratically around 10,000, never stopping completely, but varying speed from near zero rpm to near normal. The upper seal on the rear shock failed around 13,000 bathing the fan in oil which seemed to breath some new life into it for a while. Installed RSS along with new fan to hopefully extend its longevity. |

Mine started sounding like a blender with a load of marbles today. It acted up Saturday on the Fancy Gap run, but settled down and I kind of wrote it off to my being gun-shy. I was correct and it's toast. Just north of 16K miles. |

Has anyone with an Anonymous handle weighed in on all the work the board has done to id the weakness of the fan? |

Build date Jan '06. Entered service Mar '07. Intermittent fan speed fluctuations and stoppage started at 4100 miles. Approaching 5K now. Problem seems to correlate to 80's and higher ambient temps. Ft_B: thanks for the old thread link. Bob |

1st fan died at 7-8000 miles (can't remember exactly and too lazy to look up the exact mileage). Build date July '05. Currenty on the second fan with ~27,000 miles. Maybe the RSS is helping extend life? (Message edited by aeholton on September 04, 2007) |

I was thinking of making this thread after seeing the bearing failure thread, but oh well. I'll make up a nice spreadsheet to keep track of it. Is it possible from now on we can mention things like if you ride all weather and offroad and anything else you think would be important BTW, mine is on the way out. I got 13k, its almost dead dead, but its been sounding like crap since about 6k. |

My fan has almost 31K on it so I thought I would jinx it and tell you guys it is still shrieking its heart out. Just weird how some crap out so early; the bad ones must have been built after a saki break somewhere in Hong Kong. |

I went to my dealer yesterday to get the ball rolling on the warrenty, and it turns out they had 2 fans in stock. I said sweet and had them tack it on to my appointment for my 15k service. Can't wait Oh yea I then went to parts counter to ask about the air deflectors, and what do you know, they were right on the shelf with all the buell stuff like traction grips and Dark Horse Moto sliders. Now that I think about it, I think I left the empty box in the parking lot..... Oops... Ill update the spreadsheet when I get back to the office |

Mine's been flaky on my whole vacation so far - I'm about halfway through a trip that'll be about 9000 miles. I guess I first noticed it about at 5000 miles. It seems to pause a little before coming on slowly after a stop. At first it would pause, then go to full speed. Now it sounds really week. I won't see much stop-and go traffic this trip, so I'm just not going to worry about it until I get home. Then they can fix the fan and the latch on my luggage that went out on the blue ridge parkway - Day 3 of the 3 week trip, in our first big rainstorm. It still keeps the rain out with the bungee holding it shut. |

Mattwhite, I have a spare latch for the saddlebags I could ship you if you know where and when you'll be somewhere. You can send me a replacement when you get home. Remove a couple of screws to get the latch off and then the lock mechanism gets removed from the old one and installed in the new one. Pretty simple deal to replace. Let me know. |

'06 Uly, build date Sep. '05 Fan alive and well at 23,000 miles. It did sound muffled at one point, but that may have been it trying to clean the leaves out of its system. |

but that may have been it trying to clean the leaves out of its system. How would you manage to get leaves into your fan? Was it in a tree recently? |
