Since installing the fresh 1250 with micron serpent exhaust my fan has been running constantly. Even with the ceramic coated pipe, once the fan comes on it stays on. This Saturday past, I removed the stock RSS and went for a two up 100 mile ride. The fan actually cycled on and off while riding. It would run constantly in traffic, then shut of on the open road. Both frame rails got pretty warm without the stock RSS in place. After the ride Saturday I decided to modify my oversize RSS like Matt at Trojan did to his for use with the micron. Here is a shot of his:  Did an 80 mile two up ride Sunday afternoon with the usual hell hot heavy traffic and a few back roads... The fan never came on... I thought it may have died so I pulled over and shut off the bike, and the fan came on and ran for about 45 seconds and then shut off. Both sides of the frame were considerably cooler than the day before. This was the first ride where the wife did not complain about the heat on her thigh. Performance seemed better than usual as well. To summerize: Stock RSS=hot. Removed Stock RSS=a little cooler, but still hot. Oversize RSS, heat barrier on right frame rail, Ceramic pipe, All of Odies blankets with the under seat blanket tucked under BAS=comfortable ride and cooler frame=cooler fuel. | ||

What stock RSS? I thought all the right side scoops where after market additions. Where do you get an oversized RSS? The one in the pic doesn't seem any bigger then the pics I've seen of the American Sport Bike RSS. Not trying to be argumentative just curious the post has baffled me a bit. | ||

I think he means the stock right side plastic that gets replaced by a larger scoop. | ||

The stock plastic thingy is just a scoop that hugs the front head, and blocks hot exhaust air from moving up to the rear cylinder. With the factory unit in place the only air the rear head gets on the right side is air that already passed across the front head. What I meant by oversize is, the first scoops that were available last year were from rcrins. These scoops were oversize units that had a larger diameter and they stuck out more than the scoops available now. The current generation from American Sport Bike and Trojan do a great job in making sure the right side is now identical to the left. Keeps the symmetry of the bike intact. I think Matt at Trojan actually has both on his website. For me the bigger the better! I like the scoops on the Uly, especially if it enhances the ride and performance. Since the 1250 was installed (800 miles ago) the fan has been running constantly. I had to prove to my self, without a doubt that the RSS makes a difference. I have not changed anything other than the scoops. My ride to work this morning was the same as always. 70-80 for 20 miles, then 100-110 for about 3 miles. Everyday when I pull into work the fan is running on very hi. (Very loud) Today, the fan only came on when the motor was switched off. Proof enough for me. | ||

A difference even between the current rss and the larger rss? That is interesting. I wonder if it would be to difficult to make a flare for my lss and soon to be installed rss. |
