I recently inquired as to the "stability" of the Buell tankbags (in terms of moving around on the airbox cover), and have been assured that they're quite "stable." Now...one user reported some "aero" issues with the "deluxe" tankbag (which I prefer because of the side pockets, etc.)...so this query is directed at you Buell "Deluxe" tankbag users...does the "Deluxe" tankbag cause any airflow problems? I'm using the "Laminar Lip" and very much enjoy having my helmet pretty much in "clean air" (I'm 5'-9"). Does the Deluxe tankbag affect that clean air? Turbulence (buffeting), etc.? Thanks very much in advance for any and all opinions... |

I havn't noticed any aero differences between the deluxe bag I have now and the standard one that I used to have. They seem the same to me. Though this is on an S, not a Uly. I do think the zipper is better on the deluxe bag. The zipper fobs are definitely better. At first the inside dividers (removable & adjustable) seemed dumb & useless to me. Now a couple months later, I'll tell ya that I think they're a great idea and very useful. (Message edited by metalstorm on September 15, 2007) |

The only aero issues I have experienced are with the rain fly. It billows regardless of what you try to do to cinch it down. I even tried to tuck it under the bag and strap the bag down. It didn't help. |

Okay,I was the 1 who reported the air flow disruption,i will clarify this as being around the body not the head,I use the Supervisor sun screen as well on a HJC-Kast helmet, and it does not affect the air at my head at all.It purely is noticeable around my mid riff when riding only and more so up from 100kmh upwards. Made the bag look like it was 3X the size. I was always waiting for mine to pop or fly off. Never did though...} |

I have the standard bag, no aero issues but it works itself loose and flops around after a few miles off road.. |

I have found that different jackets make a big difference in how the bike feels and handles, especially above 60 or so. I have lost 35 pounds in the last 10 months, and my gear isnt as tight as it was last year. Loose fitting jackets make their way to the bars. Makes the bike feel "nervous" to me. |

+1 to the rain cover thing, I'm always scared of mine blowing off. But about the aeros, mine deflected airflow off my body and it helps make the ride more enjoyable without having to fight the wind as much. |

Deluxe tank bag rides well on my Uly. If you are on very bumpy roads, a quick pull at the strap while stopped for gas is all that is needed to keep it where you want it. The rain cover is another story. WOW. It is funny how something as minor as the raincover billowing while riding can be so frustrating. It won't come off, but it looks like it will. It also makes checking your tankbag mounted maps, unreadable unless you use your left hand to hold it down. It interferes with seeing the gauges and also your GPS, if you use one. There has got to be a simple way to fix this. I haven't got it figured out yet, but I will. |

If you tuck the slack from the rain cover under the cinch strap and then pull it tight, it won't billow up. |

I've never relied on rain covers. If it starts raining or I think it might rain I just put all my stuff in small & large ziploc bags or garbage bags inside the pack. The reason for this is that I have plenty of room to pack a few plastic bags but the covers generally take up more space than I'm willing to spare so I never have the damn cover when I need it! |

I've had mine for about 600 miles, and so far, no issues. The only chore I have now is the undo the clasps in the front when I fuel up; other wise, I've been very pleased with it. No air flow issues that I've noted. As for the rain cover, I've not used it yet, so I can't comment. I think the price point seems a bit high for the overall workmanship. But, all in all, it fits good, looks good and it's functional compared to others that I've considered before ordering it from Ebay. As for the map pocket, I just don't think it's practical or safe to read it while on the go. A Garmin ZUMO GPS is a good alternative, costs more, but if you ride a lot, it works great. |
