I'm another shortie (5'7" on a good day), so if I go the Uly route, I may need to have it lowered just a tick. I've sat on one, and I'm just almost there. I realize to have it done right is PRICEY --$1600+. Problem is,as I see it, if you lower one much lower than a about 1/2-3/4", you start approaching XB12STT #s right? So, a two part ? 1. Would it be cheaper to change seat, bars and tail section on an STT. ...but you don't get the nice long (comfortable) reach to the footpegs as best I can tell. I've grown to like that on my DR 650 motard conversion. There's also the loss of stuff like accessory outlets, aftermarket(Touratech goodies, etc). 2.Would you wait to see if Buell has dealt all their '08 cards? I'm not to concerned about missing out on a Rotax powered Uly. I don't see it before '09 if at all,and the current Uly's lack of scheduled maintenance is a powerful attractant. I don't see that being possible with the new engine. Trust me when I say, that even when your bike is a trusty ole girl in the interim, scheduled maintenance every 6000 miles sucks-financially and from a convenience standpoint. Thanks in advance. I looking forward to reading what I might pick from everyone's brains |

"I realize to have it done right is PRICEY --$1600+." You CAN spend that much but I don't think it's necessary to "have it done right." Trackside Engineering will modify the shock and fork to lower the bike 35 mm (almost 1 1/2") while at the same time adjusting the spring and dampening for your weight and riding style. $430. Check this link: http://www.tracksideengineering.com//ecommerce/cat alog_ms2.2/product_info.php/products_id/30?osCsid= 0d71d0978f694b4cf64ace5a32efb073 I had only the shock done and raised the forks in the triple clamps the requisite amount. I haven't bottomed them yet but I a svelte 250#. |

"Would you wait to see if Buell has dealt all their '08 cards?" No. I've come to the conclusion that there is a "lean angle design parameter" that keeps Buell from simply lowering the Uly. That is, the bike has to be able to lean a certain number of degrees before dragging something. That means keeping the footpegs a certain height above the ground. It must be a "performance" thing. Imagine the TT's lean angle if you were to put the Uly footpeg mounts on it. (You can do it but it's REALLY expensive. You also have to change a bunch of other stuff.) Buell could have one that as well as lower the Uly but chose not to. |
