I'm sure I didn't have the latch seated well but it still bugs me a bit. I have been thinking of the other HB side cases that are top loaders. The plastic and the aluminum ones. Does anyone have any experience with them in a fall? Will the hold up as well as the factory bags? My other concern is how easy do the aluminum ones dent? I like the protection the side bags provide not to mention the room. I use my bags every ride even around town. I can pack a lot of food in those bags.

Yeah, its easy to over load the HP side opening boxes. I haven't had the latch fail on me, but I don't really like the idea that just a thin piece of plastic is the only thing holding my stuff in.
I had Givi E21 top loading boxes on my YZF, and I really like them. Much preferable and easy to use than side openners IMO.
There is a pic on the net somewhere with an XB12X sporting the Gobi H&B plastic boxes. They are neat, but I don't think I like the square box look (just my opinion). They should be at least as tough as any other H&B box. The aluminum ones are even tougher. More scratch and damage resistant. Yeah, if you tip over or crash you are going to rash them, and probably put a dent in it, but its not going to crumple unless its a catastrophic crash that will leave you with more important things to worry about.

I also keep my boxes on most the time, But I think I am going to try to find some that are slimmer/smaller than the current H&B offerings. Might make an adapter for E-21s or a pair of the smaller top opening Pelican cases to fit on the Buell brackets.
