Went to my Buell dealer today and got to chat with the manager. He rides a Uly and we had talked in the past about the heat coming out around the seat and I had told him about blocking the heat with foil. Back at the dealer show he found out about the air deflectors and was going ask me if I wanted to order some but he noticed that I already had so when he got back. I thought that was pretty cool. Then he laughed and said that he knew I had posted pictures on the internet as it was mentioned by some of the Buell engineers at the Dealer meeting. So all you guys on the heat management thread had some interested VIPs watching. When I think about it I can truly say Badweb and Badwebbers have done a great deal of good for me! And it's pretty cool that there are people at BMC that care enough about the people they sell their product to to lurk on this site to see how or what we are doing. Or better yet, to answer questions. Thanks all. |

"And it's pretty cool that there are people at BMC that care enough about the people they sell their product to to lurk on this site to see how or what we are doing. " Agreed!!! VERY cool. BTW, just put the heat deflectors on my bike and they make a very noticeable difference. Well worth the $. |

The heat deflectors work best if you seal them top and bottom with silicone or foil tape. I used the foil tape. Otherwise all kinds of heat will escape around them to heat your thigh. I also foil taped the bottom of my seat (front half completely). I moved the rear brake reservoir and foil taped the hole over on the heat deflector. I've done a few other things that I'll take photo's of when I get time. The leg thigh broiling heat is gone. |

EG- Sealing the heat deflectors and taping off the bottom of the seat are good ideas. I had excellent results using the foil tape on the bottom of my S3 seat some time ago. I made one other mod to my Uly this weekend that seems to have helped significantly. I added foil tape to the inside of the frame adjacent to the rear cylinder head. I went from the fan opening in the rear of the frame around the inside corner of the frame and about 2 inches forward. The frame doesn't seem to get nearly as hot now; left side and right side are about equal. Foil tape is pretty amazing stuff. I wouldn't have believed how much heat it reflects if I hadn't experienced it for myself. |

"I added foil tape to the inside of the frame adjacent to the rear cylinder head." This is my next Mod. I'll probably take Electragliders advice and tape off the right side deflector as well. I think I'll leave the brake reservoir where it is though. I really haven't been noticing any heat since I put the deflectors on, but it's only been around 85 degrees out. |
