Those of you who have one or the other what made you choose it? I can do one and only one of these items. I seem to think the ceramic coating would be the best value.

I really believe they are for two different purposes. The RSS helps with cooling the motor and the coaters headers are more for your comfort than anything else. Sure they help with scavenging and all that hoopla, but in all reality they help with your comfort. Your choice boils down to cool the rear head more which might help cool the right side frame or cool the headers strictly for your comfort. BTW, they black coating is almost purely for looks as it still radiates a greater deal of heat than the silver.

Hey Bertotti, which RSS did you order??

Someone else (Treadmarks?) put some heat reflective foil on the inside of his frame. That sounded like a great idea to me, especially if you are going to rotate your engine to replace the header (easier).

I ordered from American Sport Bike. I may order some of that heat foil and do the inside of the frame also but wonder if doing so would raise the temp in the rear cylinder area. I think the frame is wicking away a significant amount of heat. When I put this part on and wire some hand grips I will work on my larger opening by the rear shock and maybe my ecm move. I haven't decided if I will do that yet.

My frame rail is considerably cooler in traffic now. Ceramic headers and the heat mat barrier do make a big difference in how much heat makes it to your thigh and frame rail. My frame used to get so hot in traffic that I would have to hold my leg out. Now, with the matting on the frame the rail gets warm, but no where as bad as it did before.

However, I do miss the RSS, as that is what directs cooler air to the rear cylinder. I will have to modify mine to work with the Micron, as once you have a RSS there is no going back. It does make a big difference. There is an odie blanket mod that helps move the hot air past the shock and out the back instead of under the seat. Since I did the blanket mod I have not had a BAS shut off. Popping the seat and checking the temps when I get home after traffic rides proved to me that the ECM was just warm vs. HOT like it used to be. I have not had a BAS shut off since the mod either. This pic from Ftd shows the Odie's blanket modified to block the heat to the BAS/ECM.

I understand what you mean by the frame wicking the heat from the rear cylinder, but I would much rather increase the air flow and let the air do the wickin' while the fuel stays cooler.

Ceramic headers, RSS, Modded blankets or heat shields like Ftd has and heat a barrier on both frame rails would probably eliminate all of our worries and discomfort while still allowing the air to flow and cool the engine.

Treadmarks, I agree with all above. I just choose to take care of the engine heat first then work on my comfort. I rode 500 miles in 100 degree heat and had to hang my leg out, for sure, but can live with it a while longer. I don't get that kind of heat here to often. I need to go find your link for the matting. I also need to go through my bookmarks because at one time I had a link to the blanket material used in the blankets. I can make my own to my shape. I hope I don't have to move the ecm.
