I was reading a thread regarding the new Blue Uly, and saw that old argument come up again. Which is faster - the black or the orange? We will now have to make a three way argument? We all know the truth. Black is fastest. It is an incontrovertable law of nature and physics. The truth it evident - always has been. As proof of this law and its precedence, I humbly offer these: 1. Land speed record. The current absolute (or unlimited) record holder is ThrustSSC, a twin turbofan jet-powered car which has achieved 763 mph (slightly under 1228 km/h) over one mile, breaking the sound barrier. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ThrustSSC
Wow. A black rocket-car 2. X-15 4,520 mph world record. Fastest manned aircraft. http://www.aviationtrivia.homestead.com/X15.html
A black aircraft 3. Fastest jet aircraft SR-71 Blackbird 2,293 mph world record. The fastest jet aircraft in the world. http://www.aviationtrivia.homestead.com/SR71_Blackbird.html
Even the name tells you it's black Do we even need to talk about submarines? Anybody see any orange vehicles there? C'mon orange - bring it on. You too, Blue |

If it weren't for the orange and blue flames, those black vehicles would go nowhere. Orange and blue make the speed, black is just along for the ride. |

The reason they use black on those experimental vehicles is simply because it is expendable. If they do fail and crash it also makes them blend into the dirt background, ie' the color of fill dirt. |

If you will notice in that last picture, the color orange is behind the black... The black plane just uses the orange and blue (its byproduct :P) -- check out blackbodies. And the SR 71 is hardly experimental! Lets just hope my black Uly will be fast enough to dodge cars at night since they wont be able to see me |

Actually, I'm afraid that orange IS the faster color of the two:
Unfortunately, it tends to fall apart killing it's "rider". |

Well.....17,500+ mph is dangerous. I'm sure they had to sign a waver. |

The orange part of that craft doesn't go the fastest or get very far. It's the black part that goes the farthest and fastest, first!! |

Not to mention that they only flew that tank Orange a few times. Then they had to cover it up because it slowed everything down. |

Ft_bstrd, my Black (now carbon fiber) Uly started to disintegrate on me. Hit 130 and the windshield popped off and attacked me, mirrors turned in and hand guards popped off the bar ends |

The Color Orange: Hot, Fast and Fun
What orange means to us psychologically: The color orange is a visually dominant color, mixing the brightness of yellow with the power of red. A truly vivid orange is not a color that relaxes people. Instead, it energizes some and distracts others. Orange is the “hottest” color, due to its association with the sun and the color of flame. In addition, we generally considered tanned (more orange) skin as healthy, attractive skin—and although we know now that constant tanning isn‘t good for you in the long run, there are still some “healthy,” or “physically fit" connotations that go along with the color orange. Is orange a “girl color" or “boy color?” Orange appeals more to men than women, and especially more to younger men. It’s viewed as a bold (even brash) and is often the color of fast cars and motorcycles, which also appeal to the male population. BTW guys, we all know that a woman prefers a guy to be "hot" instead of "fast"! (Message edited by dragon_slayer on September 03, 2007) |

>>BTW guys, we all know that a woman prefers a guy to be "hot" instead of "fast"!<< The smart ones go for 'cool'. I just got a new watch to match my bike. http://www.citizenwatches.co.nz/products/model/Pro master/JR3156-51E Try doing that with orange. |

You gotta go for refinement in a watch to match your Buell. Your Buell isn't a busy machine, it's a refined work of art. Here is the watch match for a Black Buell: http://www.movado.com/Details.aspx?Id=watchesmens& watchType=Mens&watchCode=&watchId=605899&page=5 |

Slayer, After all this time, you finally chime in on the color subject (again) after letting me know it was like beating a dead horse how many months ago? Welcome back. For anyone who really cares, it would seem that since the official name of the darker color is stealth black, how can it's speed be measured, since it is so hard to detect? IMHO ! |

I wouldn't mind the 'orange' so much if it were actually orange. To me it looks like a mixture of yellow and orange. To those of you with kids I'm sure you'd agree it should be called "baby sh1t" yellow (also reminds me of what's coming OUT of the photos above)...Great thread. I won't get into the "faster/slower" argument (a lot of you guys made me laugh out loud), but just based on LOOKS black wins hands down... |

I like all the colors of the Uly and if I had a ton of cash I would have one of each and an extra just to paint my way. |

barricade orange looks like a school bus or a road grader! And the name barricade, when has a barricade ever been fast? By now everyone knows that the Midnight black Ulysses is the best color, in fact it's the only color!!!!! |
