I have an '07 with about 2,000 miles on it and my fan has failed to shut off 6 different times. I am afraid to walk away from the bike after riding as I never know when it is going to do this.

My question is, will the computer show some sort of fault for this issue? I would prefer to take the bike to a dealer and have them verify through some error code process what the issue is and order parts accordingly. Since the bike will not always repeat the fan shut-off issue, I am not sure how the dealer will be able to trouble shoot it. I have checked connections, etc. and cannot find bad wires.

Thanks in advance for suggestions on how to diagnose the issue.

How long did the fan continue to run in these cases? Just curious as to how you decided it "failed" to shut off. The fan should run after the bike is shut off to cool the rear head. In extreme heat, it can run quite a while. I've had mine run for several minutes on shut off in the summer heat.

Mine has also stayed on long enough for me to get in the house and change and then hear it shut off.

Sometimes it just keeps running. I have generally stopped it after about 20-30 minutes. In other cases it has shut off and then turned back on and ran for 20 minutes before I go out and turn the key on and off to turn it off.

That sounds like a faulty thermo switch.

Is this something that would show up when they hook the diagnostic computer to the bike? I am hoping to just have them look at the bike, order parts, and then I can leave it once parts are in to fix it. I'm not sure how easy it will be for them to duplicate the problem as I can ride it 5 or 6 times with no problem and then it happens.

Video tape it with the problem so the dealer can see what happened.
