Mattwhite:

If you want the latch fixed pronto, I can get it overnighted to intercept you in your travels.

If you need it, just drop me a note and be certain to put Uly Latch in the subject.

Have a fun and safe trip,
Court

Thanks for the offers of help, but I decided the bungee and tie-down strap work well enough that I don't want to mess with it until I get home. I'll let the dealer take care of it.

Guess I jinxed myself. Fan failed at 29500 in the middle of a trip. Thanks to Al @ American Sportbike and UPS and I'm good to go again.

My fan was replaced at the 5K service, although it was going bad from about 4K. I just didn't realize that the erratic speed meant imminent failure.
Bike build date was Dec 05, put into service in August 06.
I'd done about 10 miles off-road.

Mine went goodbye at ~3500 miles. It didn't fail completely, but started to sound like it was about to throw a bearing - sounded like it had a rock in it.

Although originally dismissive when I told the dealer ("They are just loud fans.") they replaced it under warranty as soon as they heard it.

My fan now has over 10 grand on it and sounds ok. I know that it will eventually fail. Hopefully before March 31, 2008.
