Hi everyone. I am currently deployed for the GWOT and I was looking to buy a 2008 XB12X... I wanted to take advantage of the over seas discount that is available but when I talk to them about it they say that Buell/HD have not released the 2008 ordering info for the program yet... Is anyone able to tell me when I will be able to order one through the program? I have fallen in love with the Uly and have not even seen it in person! Any ideas Anonymous? Thanks for any help I can get.

PS: I am staying anonym. for hopefully obvious reasons...

I have been informed by overseas sale that they will not be caring Buell. Maybe someone else can confirm that, CityXslicker?

Thread creator here, I plan on receiving the bike in the US when I get back though. I hope that does not apply to that program. Just in case you guys have not heard about the program: http://www.encs.com

Right. Basicly it is not Buell's fault, the company is like any other dealer only they deal in just about anything and then ship it to the customers local dealer, GM, Ford,H-D, Buell, whatever. One of the GI's informed me they were no longer able to purchase Buells as a part of that program.

Well they certainly show the 2008 Buells.

I suspect you'll have no problem.

Hey Anonymous,

You need to register for a username and profile. No good reason not to -- anonymous email is readily available through Gmail, Hotmail, etc, to include auto-forwarding to your official account, if required.

There are many of us military-types here who bought our Buells through ENCS, with many using our own "surge" savings as well. ; )

I just spoke w/the ENCS salesman who sold me my Buell earlier this year. He's passionate and knowledgeable about Buell/HD sales, and attended the dealer meeting this year.

He assures me that there is no end in sight to Buell's participation in the ENCS overseas military sales program, and that any rumors otherwise are unfounded. He writes, "We will be getting our 2008 Buell ordering info in next month and will continue selling them for the foreseeable future."

Having recently purchased through ENCS, I will offer my own 0,02€. Not all ENCS salespeople are created equal. Some offer significantly better service and pricing than others. Don't believe the assumption that the first price or quote that you are offered is already the lowest "pre-negotiated" price available. It pays to shop around.

Additionally, the five year extended warranty is always included as part of the first quote, but it is indeed optional. You decide whether it is worth the value and risk.

I found a fantastic ENCS salesman who I ended up buying my '06 Ulysses from -- probably would not have done so otherwise. He gave me a great price, and (more importantly) great information and timely responses, all conducted via email and phone -- I've never met the guy in person. He will work with any overseas active military stationed anywhere, and can deliver to either Europe or CONUS locations.

Please contact me through PM or my personal website if you would like his contact info.

Hope this helps. Please keep us updated on your shopping.

Bob

I had friend buy his bike the same way. Good and bad from the deal as a whole. The process had a lot of hoops to jump through because he was not wanting to finance the thing. Long story short he he went to pick up the bike he had to put it together out of the crate or the dealer said he'd do it for $350. Dealer prep not included!!! The dealer also "had" to title and licesne it too, I think it was a way to try and make a buck where he didn't. I think the dealer was being a jerk.

Depending where you take delivery most the time that dealer would have made you a equal or better deal than what ENCS could give you including the tax free savings. Once you get a deal set with price get in contact with the dealer you want to pick it up at and give them a chance to beat the price. The dealer will try to get as close as he can to move one off his floor than have one show up for a customer he's making no money from.

Just like any other purchase shop around for your best deal.

Rotorhead, was this a CONUS or OCONUS delivery? Setup and prep pricing is indeed included as part of the ENCS "Buyer's Offer" (formal written quote), so it sounds like your buddy got ripped off by paying twice. I certainly wouldn't have rolled over to pay a second time for something I'd already paid for. I also paid in cash (prior to delivery), and had no problems.

FWIW, the purchase and delivery of my 2006 Ulysses through ENCS was an excellent experience. All ENCS Buell/HDs delivered in Germany are received at Harley-Davidson Rhein-Neckar in Ludwigshafen. I rode the train there from Stuttgart, wearing my Aerostich gear and carrying my helmet and paperwork. The bike was waiting ready to go when I got there, and I rode it back home on the Autobahn. I was careful to maintain break-in performance constraints, but I may have experienced a few inadvertent excesses. ; )

The staff at the dealer was very attentive and helpful. Both my salesperson and Rhein-Neckar HD are very experienced at Buell deliveries. I think you'd have a hard time finding any such problems with them.

I agree that the ENCS tax break is frequently outweighed by additional delivery fees and the (optional) extended warranty, and it does pay to shop around and negotiate. The first offer is always the most the salesperson thinks you will pay. I got a great deal on my bike -- comparable to the very lowest going CONUS prices at the time, but delivered to me here in Germany tax-free. If you get a better written offer from a stateside dealer for the same bike, delivery, and warranty plan, I'd definitely present it to the ENCS salesman and give him a chance to beat it.

Again, it always pays to shop around, negotiate, and seek references, regardless of your location.

FWIW. YMMV. IMHO.

Bob

When I was deployed for the last time, I ended up on med duty, they found out I did Harley & Buell sales, so I spent 6 months selling bikes to the military members through the program. It was really a totally different sales process, as the rider may have not sat on the bike, demo'd or in some cases seen it in person. I did pretty good numbers for walking into their program as a noobe ;) Normally they get their listings for new bikes on the fiscal year that starts september, because it is a new buying contract for the military, even though the new motorcycles come out in august.

Hey everyone, thanks for the great info! So it appears that the ENCS sales person was telling the truth when they said Buell/HD had not given them the ordering info for 08 yet. Glad to hear most of your experiences went well with the program. Unfortunately, since I would be taking delivery in CONUS, I would still have to pay tax on it. We will see if I get enough time to make the purchase while I am over here...
By the way, I do have a username but am staying anonymous on this topic. I think some of you military guys will understand (Bob, I will PM you.). Thanks for the help everyone and hopefully Buell gets the info out in time! Either way I will still be purchasing a Uly: it was Buell/HD's participation in the program that got me interested in the first place. Kudos!

Also, does anyone know if there is a different California version for 08? I heard that the bike in California will be the exact same as the rest of the states for 08...

>>>I heard that the bike in California will be the exact same as the rest of the states for 08...

That is inaccurate. The CA bikes will be unique, sold only in CA.

Do you know what the differences are? Less power due to restrictions?

There is no difference in power that I aware of. Your ENCS guy will have Roadworks with ALL the data.

Anonymous pointed out, "Unfortunately, since I would be taking delivery in CONUS, I would still have to pay tax on it."

So, hypothetically, if we were to invade Canada, and then trailer the bike across the border from East Troy into "the war zone," you could get it tax free?

...let me see what I can do.

CA bikes have small plastic carbon canister for evap emissions, and unique VINs. That's the only difference. Note, this post is a factory anonymous, not the deployed guy!
