Sorry if this is an old subject. I tried a search but found no info and I've seen a couple of conflicting numbers for the pur one oil filters that fit the ulysses. Does anyone know for sure the pur one number that fits? I looked at the oil filter cross reference site, did not see uly listed and want to be sure. I may use a nice black stock but it's good to have options and people swear by those pur ones and the mobil filters. Thanks in advance- George | ||

Can't comment on pur ones, but I've been using a Wix oil filter without any issues and would also use the K&N if needed. Wix - 51394 K&N - KN-177 | ||

KN-177 here as well. It is already black and has a nut welded on it to help get it off. | ||

The wix is black as well but does not hav the nut welded on. I started using the Wix filter after going to Amsoil.. Amsoil sells the wix filter. They actually posted some nice details about the wix filter http://www.amsoil.com/StoreFront/wix.aspx | ||

I know it goes against "internet wisdom", but I got one of the fram toughguard filters at WalMart (they were out of the SuperTech)... It looked better built then the SuperTech it replaces (which is probably the same maker as the oem part). Both looked fully functional though. Don't know about the low end Fram stuff though. The Purolator filter I always used was L14476. Those Pure One filters were also nice, but a little pricey. | ||

Gamdh, Did you have any issues with fittment of the WIX filter? I couldn't manage to get mine installed, and reverted back to the OEM. Filter seemed to be just a little larger in diameter and contacted some of the fittings, and it almost seemed like the thread/hole was sized a little differently. I'll be double-checking my P/N tonight. | ||

I've had no problems what so ever...I'm on my 3rd one since switching from the OEM. When I first looked at the Wix web page they listed n/a for the 06 XB12X. I contacted them (Sept '06) and they indicated the filter mentioned above will work with the Uly.... I just rechecked and the web site say N/A. I'm hoping nothing has changed??? I'm going to shoot them another email to verify. [Edit] Smcnamara I was looking back at old emails..when I first ordred a Wix filter I let the retailer order based on the info they had... it was wrong. I got the filter and it was no where close to being the right one. I then contacted Wix directly and got the number above. Perhaps you had the same issue??? Everyone beat me, but for interests sake I have been keeping a record too, so here's another page to bookmark if anyone wishes: http://uly.jl.sg/2006/12/2006-buell-xb12x-oil-filt er-cross.html And another filter for the Aussies: Repco Generic Oil Filter ROF-35 Same as that used by most Toyotas, about AU$8 from Repco, and filters just fine :-) It's _slightly_ bigger than the genuine Buell filter, but still fits ok. | ||

There are two different part numbers for the Mobil-1 filter listed: M1-102 and M1-103. Does anyone know the difference between the two and if they will both work? If they both don't work, which is correct? The Calisci lists the M1-102 and the M1-103 is listed in the other links. | ||

No talk of how factory parts are recommended and all that "void warranty" stuff?? funny, if this was a BMW forum we'd be hearing how BMW filters are one of the best engineered parts that BMW makes, bar none, and certainly the cost is supported by the quality and features. now, go ahead and tell me the Harley/Buell filters are actually made by Fram.  | ||

Frams all have cardboard inside them. All. I'd reuse a 15,000 mile old filter before I'd put on a new Fram. Supertechs are made on the Champion line, and are comparable to Mobil-1 and Bosch in quality. K&N motorcycle filters are made by Hi-Flo. You couldn't pay me to put a Hi-Flo filter on any motor I owned. I'd use Fram before I'd use Hi-Flo. Hi-Flo is the poster child for dangerously low quality chinese crap. The Harley high performance filter for the 88" and 96" is made on the Champion line and is comparable to the Mobil-1, Bosch, and Supertech in quality. But for price, the Harley high-performance filter is a good choice. It's hasn't come up here yet, but the stainless steel laser cut filters are a poor choice too, due to their unacceptable filtering and low filter area. It's illegal to void a warranty in the US for using an alternative oil filter. In any case, if you're worried, just after you blow up your motor switch back to factory. mark, the Calsci guy. This was the official reply from Wix "The correct oil filter for your 2006 Buell XB12X Ulysses motorcycle is part # 51394. (the same will be for the '07 as well)This information has been confirmed through our local Harley Davidson dealer and the OEM # is 6380600Y. As for the website and our data info. everything did still list N/A for this application. I just changed that in our database to read as above so there should be no more confusion on this. The website is updated weekly so the changes should reflect on there soon. I am not sure what happened a year or so ago with this but it is definitely fixed and exact now. If I can be of futher assistance just let me know." | ||

I'm running the Mobil One m1-103, so I can verify that it fits. Same model as my wife's Scion Tc, so I usually stock up on filters. | ||

The Pur One is PL14476. According to a lubrication consultant that was giving a class at work, the PurOne is the best filter on the market right now. I have been using them on the Buell and HD with no problems. |
