For those of you with an interest in taking the Uly power to the next level, there may be a solution.

After realizing I was suffering from the leaking factory valve guide seal syndrome I made about a thousand phone calls to Al at American Sport Bike and Dan at NRHS in my quest for an affordable solution. After a few weeks of research and shopping I decided to go for the 1250 big bore kit and stage 1 heads from NRHS. Al at American Sport Bike was a huge help in working out the technical details and also had all of the necessary goodies on hand (ceramic coated micron, servo emulator, clamps, software) and the map for my particular combination.

For those of you who aren't aware of my leaking valve guide ordeal, here is a quick rundown of how it all started. Power was just a tad off and the idle was stumbling just a bit as well as a slight increase in the cough or sneezing we all occasionally endure in the v-twin family. Fresh plugs didn't seem to help, so I pulled the air box base and checked for an intake manifold (throttle body) leak. Both cylinders tested positive for an intake leak so I pulled the throttle body to see what the major malfunction was. Once the throttle body was off to problem was obvious. The intake port in the head was partially blocked by carbon deposits, and a closer look revealed that a large amount of carbon decided to set up camp on the back of the intake valve. There was so much carbon on the back of the valve, that pieces of it fell into the valve seat while open and became lodged there. While looking inside the intake port, I could see the shiny oil leaking out of the guide and collecting on the back of the valve with it's buddies. After dropping the motor, pulling the heads then dissembling the valves I found it. The factory intake valve guide seals had leaked enough oil to completely fill the cavity under the spring seat...just my luck.

Anyways, fast forward to today...yesterday actually.

Here is a shot of the NRHS stage 1 head porting and rebuild.

Veeery cool!!!

Ps - Thanks for giving me something else to worry about, hahah... wheel bearings, now valve seals. I should stop reading these forums.

It's funny; seems like the more reliable a bike is, the more I worry when I hear/read about problems.

My old kwaka we doing crazy things on a regular basis, so I was very comfortable AKA prepared to deal with the sh%t.

But, MORE PHOTOS please!!!
Watching with great interest.

James

Dayuum. Had to pull the heads back off due to contact between the fins of the larger 1250 cylinders and the Buell push rod boxes. I spoke to Dan at NRHS who was kind enough to inform me that it would be necessary to grind a little off the bottom few fins for each cylinder. To gain about .10" all around the pushrod boxes, it was necessary to grind a portion of the bottom 6 fins. No worries tho, it still has considerably more finage that the stockers.
If you look closely, you can see where the fins need to be cut. Maybe this will save some BadWebber from having to pull their jugs back off, like I did.

With the fin issue resolved everything went together quite nicely.

Man I love these Micron pipes.

It even looks like skully likes the pipes too!

I do believe he is smiling....sort of. I know I am.

Well, here she sits. Patiently waiting for the UPS truck to drop off her newly mapped ECM from the Almiester at American Sport Bike. Thanks AL! You Da Man.
