I would like to get some feedback as to what windscreen others are using, and how it differs from the stock unit.

I'm looking for something that offers a little bit more wind protection, while leaving my helmet in clean air.

Thanks,

I have the tall screen from Buell. I felt a lot of wind on my helmet until I installed lower bars, now its ok, but I was thinking of trying out Saeng-Ta molding for more air coverage

Laminar Lip here. At my 5-9 height it keeps wind off torso and helmet in clean air. I love it.

Go streetfighter style and take the shield off altogether. Uly looks cool with just the flyscreen.

I use a ZG 4" taller smoked windscreen, and it works well enough for me. I'm 6'1".

I have tried the Buell tall screen I didn't like it-too much turb. I now have the zero gravity and love it.

The Uly does look better without the shield and it eliminates the troublesome turbulence. What to do with the 4 mounting holes is the only issue.

No windscreens. Tested hundreds of bikes. Hate them.

For me - All they do is look girly soft, add noise and turbulence and make the ride more tiring from the racket they make.

I got some rubber bungs from the industrial Hardware supplies to fill the holes.

Since I painted the stock screen black I leave it on cause it looks OK and is not big enough to interfere with the ride.

It is very sensitive to your height.

I'm almost thinking about trying to drop the stock screen down an inch.

And, big screens look girly!

Almost as girly as an elf-sized guy wearing a HiViz 'Stich riding an Orange Uly!

ZG +4". I'm 6' and very happy with it. Anything taller is a turbulence disaster for me.

The best one I have used is on the FJR1300.
Adjustable power blade. Wind it up or down like a window to adjust for speed and headwind.
Mostly left at the lowest position - would put it up in the rain.

Just done a tour test on a new Tiger with the Triumph touring screen.

If you are 5'10" and travel consistently at 80mph it's a thing of beauty i guess. if you want to be isolated from the experience and travel at demerit point speeds to get comfortable.

Outside those parameters: wooooshswoooshbuffettswooshblowwhoosh

You seen some of the ones they put on BMW adventure bikes?

I laugh out loud at some of them.

My wife's octagonal aquarium is less complicated. And would probably look better mounted on the handlebars.

Personal taste of course.

I have a Laminar lip and think it sucks, puts a lot of strain on the windscreen and moves the turbulance from my chest to my face, I read in another thread about a couple of guys that had a Cee Baily +14 and cut an opening in them and reported that the modification really fixed the buffeting issue, i'd like to hear a long term report from those guys

I have the Buell tall screen and am thinking of taking it off. A lot of turbulence at certain speeds which cause my helmet to buffet some and at 75 up I still get a chest full of air. I'm short so I am surprised as some people claim it takes the air off the chest.

From the twisted perspective of someone who's 5'6", here are my observations on 3 different configs:

Buell Tall: I was barely able to make it to the next exit on I-75 at ~80mph because the buffet was so bad. I stopped, and swapped out to the next windscreen configuration.

Windscreen Removed: At 80 mph, surprisingly quiet and peacefull...until I got into the wake of tractor trailors. My 'Stich just caught too much air in the arms and shoulders, and was causing a jittery ride because of the [unintended] steering inputs.

Stock Windscreen: At 5'6", this is pretty easy to hid behind. Some noise due to turbulence, but nothing like the Buell Tall. If I drop it down about an inch, I think I can have the turbulent edge drop down to my neck where it will make less noise.

Multistrada: Wait, there's more! Less buffet and pressure at higher speeds, above 80 mph, but acoustically, noisier than my Buell's stock screen. On the super slab, it's easy to be going 100 mph on this bike and not realize it.

You can toss around a lot of money before you find a screen you are happy with. It is critically dependent upon your height, and riding position, and also dependent upon the aero and acoustic qualities of your helmet. Even your choice of jackets can affect your opinion of a particular windscreen set-up.

When I finally release my own CFD share-ware, then we can all finally what-if these configurations from our desk before we drop big $ on them through trial and error. Look for my CFD release sometime in the second quarter of 2021.

Bertotti, I have the Buell tall screen as well. I am 5' 9" and have found the wind is now definitely off my chest, and I get a fairly smooth flow of air around my helmet. It works for me.

I just don't get it. I'm a bit shorter just under 5' 8" and at 80 I have a good amount of wind right between and on the pecks. 70 gives me a terrible helmet buffet. I can modify my riding position to take care of this and I suppose I will have to do that no matter what screen is on. One of these weekends I am going to try nothing the stock and the tall on the same ride and see which really works the best for me. I doubt there is a perfect screen. I do think the tall catches more turb from semitrucks. I am also starting to think DD may have it right and I just need to ditch these screens.

Man - I've tried some shockers.

C90T Suzuki I couldn't wear a full face - the thrumming was so disconcerting. Slammed the visor shut at 60kph.

Road King - like hanging a Spinnaker on the front of it.

My Trophy 1200 - was a day away from selling it till I went to a short screen.

I ordered the 14" C Bailey shield from 1tail.com and it works very good on my 6'1" frame. Its looks a little strange but I do some long distance riding and I appreciate the protection. There is also a 12" and 16" shield I believe.

Tall windshield was ok with the stock 06 seat. once I switched to the low seat, I had to go back to the stock shield.

I tried the Buell tall shield. It offered descent protection and kept my head in clean air. However, the "noisy" air was just under my helmet,(6'1" height & '07 seat). Even with earplugs it was fatiguing. I've since gone back to the stock shield and a quieter helmet,(Scorpion EXO-700). On hot summer days the wind is welcome. I may try the zero gravity shield in the fall. The ZG shield appears to be the same height as the Buell tall without the lip on it. That may make enough of a difference with noise levels. Those of you with the ZG please verify.

I thought of cutting two inches off the tall Buell screen but I imagine I'd be better off selling it. I have a hard time chopping up a 90 dollar screen.

Bertotti,

I thought of doing the same thing. My fear is that I'd do a halve-ass job of it and end up with a product unworthy of the bike.

That is my thought as well. I do good with wood and ok with metal but have never had any luck cutting plastic or whatever this stuff is. My thought was to use the stock screen to set up my scribed line and maybe use a coping saw with a real fine blade but if I don't like it then it would be that much harder to sell since it was modded.

Very interested in this topic. I'm planning on an '08 in the near future. I'm 5'10" and was thinking of getting a Buell tall w/s with the bike. Not so sure now.
Any 5'10"ers out there, whats best for you?
It would be nice to have some protection if caught in the rain and also for cold weather riding.

I have the Zero Gravity windscreen, what people refer to as the ZG +4. I put it on for doing 1500 mile round trips between Florida and North Carolina.

I am 6'2", and with the '07 seat, I find the ZG could be an inch lower and be ideal. It just starts to develop a touch of wind noise, unless I make sure that I am sitting up straight. I wear ear plugs on the long trips, so it's not really a problem -- more an observation. Very little turbulence, just a touch of noise. And I really think that it is from the air hitting my chest and then running up over my shoulders, causing the noise as it goes under/around my helmet.

With an '06 seat, the ZG is even better for my height.

Keep in mind everyone is proportioned differently, and with different air flow preferences.

I actually put the stocker back on today, no more immediate trips in the future, and it is HOT down here in Florida !
I'll take the slight increase in air flow right now, thank you !

Just wanted to add -- order 4 extra windscreen push pins. That way you can switch out windscreens based on your riding choice for that day. Excellent EZ change system -- unless you need to run the recall mounting kit for the Buell tall screen.

I have had no problems with the stock pins on the ZG or standard screens.
