Wasn't sure what to search for. Just looking for a quick answer as to why my engine just shut itself off while rolling down the highway. Pulled on over to the side of the road, reset the kill switch and started back up. I've seen this come up before, and I believe it was the TPS reset issue, but i could be wrong. Can someone clarify? I was totally caught off guard.

Sounds like the BAS (bank angle sensor).

I did a wheelie once and hit the kill switch on accident while dropping out of second gear and letting the front wheel bounce. Didn't know what it was till I slowed down to about 40 mph. Figured it out, started it up, kept going and a cop passed me about 5 seconds later. heh.

Thanks RR. I just read the symptoms of the bad BAS. Although I have an 07, and though that was only an issue with the 06's. I will tell the dealer when i drop it off for a melted clutch cable replacement.

BAS recall affected both 06's and early 07's.

Actually, 07s were affected as well. I have an 07 and received the recall notice from Buell...

Nart, The wire form clip that keeps the clutch cable from rubbing the exhaust header snapped, causing a melted section of the cable. Apparently, it's not that uncommon.

I have an '07 and have had the bike shut off 12 times, 11 times at 75 - 80 mph speeds. After the 11th time I just ordered a new BAS to have as a spare. The 12th time was at low speed, and the only time in the last several thousand miles that it has happened. The BAS is located in the tail, and was from day 1.
I had the cable wire form clip break also, with the same melted mess up against the header. Zip tied for now.

Just spoke with the service dept at my dealer. The BAS was replaced under recall status before they delivered the bike to me.

So, what else could it be? I would just like to have some sort of idea what I'm dealing with before I bring it in for diagnostics.

My Uly is so bitchy lately, that I need to bring to a Gyno, not a Dyno. LOL!!! :P

Check for loose grounds and or loose battery connections.
I have heard that some of the gel filled batteries were having problems with the internal connection of the plates to the external battery terminals. The problem would only show up during operation with vibration and was most noted among the non rubber-mounted sportsters. It's only a possibility but ya never know!

Mike,
Just because the BAS was relocated doesn't mean that it cannot act up, or go bad completely. I think the old location may have made the BAS more susceptible to problems, but that the new location is not a guarantee of no problems.

I looked under my seat last night, and there was no BAS in the tail section. I thought this was the relocation location. I have a feeling it wasn't replaced.

I'm trying to look for it, i found a nice document a while back that shows detailed pics and instructions for the BAS recall, if you looked at it you would know weather it was done or not. If it was done, it would be up in the tail section with the seat lock, and you would see the wires running up to it.
