Anybody else notice their seems to be a surge in Uly purchases recently? Judging from this forum and advrider, there was HUGE interest when the bike was released back in 2005, which continued for a few months. Last year, interest seemed to subside a little, and then early this year, you'd see posts about 2006's still languishing in some dealerships.

Now, in the last month or so, since the release of the 08's, there seems to be a surge in Uly purchases again. Oddly enough, there seem to be as many people picking up left-over 06's as there are those who are getting new 08 models with their enhancements.

Nice to see the bike doing so well after 3 model years. Seems like the word on how good these bikes really are must have been slow to get around.

Does the fact that many are looking at the '06 imply that the Uly may be a bit overpriced in many people's view??? This is an argument worth making because many feel that Buell's are a bit overpriced at retail for the market they are serving.

I think it is the 08's being released as well. Those that were waiting for changes are putting down deposits on them, and the others are trying to get money knocked off an 06 or 07, now that they are "obsolete"

I don't think you can call the Uly overpriced. It's $6,000-$10,000 less than it's BMW competition (and, despite that, a better bike in my opinion), and the large displacement V-strom is no longer being manufactured.

$11,500 for a "Toy" is still a bit much for allot of people including me. Many people like the Uly but just can not see paying sticker or even close to sticker for a "Toy". Hey I did the same thing with my first Buell. I got the M2 from E-bay for a fraction of its original price.

The problem is very few dealers sell them at full price as M2nc point out. We complain about dealers not liking to carry Buell. It is because they have to discount them to move them most of the time. And as far as worth competitor what about Triumph Tiger for $1000 less or for the same price with ABS. You can find those discounted as well. I love my Uly and love the Buell technology, I am just not sure that pricing against Ducati or BMW is the right long term strategy. I just think they are about $1000.00 to high retail.

I had no problem with the price, but i also didn't consider it a "toy", as it is my daily driver and weekend play thing. I also walked out the dealer with the GPS, side and top bags, low seat, then a few weeks later the complete race kit.

10 sold last year, 9 sold this year, one remaining. Seems to be about the same for us up in the soggy NW corner of Washington.

I was wondering what the resale value of my 06 would be in the future. Buells seem to depreciate pretty badly.

A couple of great things about cost of ownership on Buells is really inexpensive parts and easy self maintenance.

To be honest, I don't think that I will buy another Buell new due to very poor warranty service and high depreciation costs. It is the only automotive product that I have ever owned that I will actually be relieved when the warranty is expired because then I won't have to deal with the drama and endless delays from the HD dealer.

Despite all of that, I don't regret buying the bike new. It has been great fun, the steep part of the depreciation curve is gone, the bike still runs great, and I am quite sure that the total cost of ownership is still less than a KTM Adventure 950 or BMW GS, which were my 2nd and 3rd choices.

If you approach the Uly as "a toy", then perhaps the list price seems too high. Then again, take the Ducati 1098. It truly is a toy, and it's $15,000. As is the BMW K1200S at $17,500.

Undoubtedly the Tiger is intended at the same market as the Uly, and Buell should consider what its presence in the market will do to sales.

I think a large part of the problem is the cavalier attitude with which HD approaches advertising and sales of the entire Buell line.

Hey all! I've got an 06 Orange Uly for sale. 7K well-cared for miles; new oil every 2500mi, dealership serviced. High windshield, comfort grips, everything else stock. $7800 takes her from the Phoenix AZ area.

Any thing for sale is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

With that said, a new Uly was worth 10Gs, including tax and tags(CA) to me. I tried to buy a new Ulysses for that, but the dealers would not budge on the M.S.R.P. (Jan/Feb '06.) Each of the 4 dealers, at that time, had 2 or more Ulys on their floor. Wouldn't even give the deal a look.

Patience... in May/06 I found a slightly used Uly (850mi) for $8500, and here we are.

So yes, I think the Ulysses is over priced as new.

I think it interesting that I seem to find plenty of left over new '06 models, but have yet to see an '07 sitting in the showroom. Every dealer I've been to in western PA has said "we're all sold out of the '07 models and don't expect to get more. However, we do have a new '06 over there..."

I think some dealers were very slow to get bikes out of the crates in "06 and there were enough upgrades in '07 and now '08 that gives a strong reason not to buy and '06. Great point Teeps about discounting. My guess is those dealers sat on those bikes a long time. Harley dealers will learn one day that you can always get bikes but you cannot always get customers and some money is better than no money.

The Frederick HD/Buell dealer has an 06 & 07 on the floor. Didn't seem too excited about negotiating to move one so I'll wait for my 08.

Sold out of the 06s in June of 2006. Down to one 2007 Uly left. That will make 20 of them on the road for the last two years. Just a rock solid hit, great for commuting, fun on the dirt, and capable for two-up and baggin. Come fly and ride for our last 2007 ;)

That's for those who think a bike is a "toy". For me 11,500 is cheap for transportation. Add in all the money saved in fuel and it's a great bargain. Aren't "toys" the big overweight cruisers guys ride for a few miles on the weekend?

I've never considered my 2006 Ulysses a toy. It's a great motorcycle I can use for both pleasure riding and economical transportation.

Now I do consider a boat or a 4-wheeler a toy since they can't be used as transportation!

I ride my motorcycle (2006 Ulysses) to work daily.

I passed by Skid Fordyce HD Buell in Riverside, Ca. It was early in the am and they weren't yet open but right inside the front door it looked like that had 4 '07's on the floor. 2 Black, and 2 Orange.

Understand that the "Toy" comment is the way most look at motorcycles. Look at all the five year old motorcycles with less than 5000 miles. I ride my bike to work and average 12,000 miles a year on my Uly and 7000 miles a year on my M2. So I do use the bikes for commuting. Those motorcyclist that commute them to work are a very small minority in the motorcycling world.
