Hey has anyone used the Touratech guard set with anything other than the stock pipe? I currently have the race pipe and it looks like it will still fit fine, but i might be switching to a Micron or Drummer soon and i will really be needing the guards |

Ok, so I've never bottomed out my Uly (but I have bottomed out my Multistrada, does that count for anything?)... I just don't get the Touratech guards. This guard is going to reduce the ground clearance, and raise the probability of bottoming out, no? If the guard does take a blow, won't it end up deforming, and just bash into the exhaust can anyway? Everybody is so hung up on bash plates. Yeah, if you have a GS, a plate is probably a good idea, because it protects the underside of the aluminum engine block, but... the Buell exhaust can is steel, and it IS the bash plate. I don't know. I just don't get it, but then again, I'm just running the ugly stock exhaust, and never really thought about trying to guard it with anything. |

I can verify, you can dent the crap out of the Uly muffler. Mine is smaller than it once was, for sure. |

Isn't a stock Uly muffler cheaper and easier to obtain than the Touratech guard? |

I've been using my exclusively on the Race pipe. The posts above regarding the guards/stock pipe are pretty accurate, but with a no longer available Race pipe I would disagree. The only Race pipes I've seen for sale lately are for more than MSRP. That along with the fact that they are of a thinner construction, caused me to armor mine up. The TT guard is well made and fits nicely on the Race Pipe. Price wise it is costly for an aluminum sheet, (especially since they raised the price again), but it is still cheaper than trying to find another race pipe. Here are a few pics of mine.. And some general armor info on my bike.. http://www.paochow.com/Buell_files/page0006.htm |

Paochow, Do you use the guard for jacking also? Dennis |

I haven't been brave enough to try it. In theory it should work as you put the stress on the proper jacking points. The lower guard is pretty easy to remove and I built a fancy jack box to use, so I've been sticking with that. I remember one Badweber saying they had used it for jacking (Treadmarks, maybe?), but I can't find the post. |

Good Memory Paochow. I use a bike lift on my TT bashplate on a regular basis. No problem at all supporting the weight. |

I have the Drummer Pipe with the added 12 guage steel plate welded inside it. I have beat the living %*&% out of it and it still looks new. however the straps holding the pipe could use a replacement, but they are still holding it for now. |

This is the next step for my CityX, not having the ground clearance of the Uly, and running the race pipe, well I have knocked a couple of good size dings into the thing. Looks like somebody used it for soft ball pitching practice. |
