Author Message   Erz Posted on Wednesday, August 01, 2007 - 11:23 pm:        I just realized that checking the oil right after I shut it off, I get a very false oil read because the oil is "foamed". After a few minutes, the oil seems to give a much better read. Find out why it's foaming, that is not normal. Wouldn't foaming oil indicate some water contamination?   Alchemy Posted on Friday, August 03, 2007 - 01:36 pm:        Bertotti, Somewhere on the forum there was a discussion of condensation (I think) getting some moisture in the oil. If the bike is run for a time(?) so that it is well heated the moisture should boil off. The moisture might build up a bit if the bike is not run enough (mostly short rides) to boil off the moisture. The oil pump is performing so well that it is scavenging some air when the oil is returned to the tank. Try some AMS oil 20-50 MCV. I found that is does well under those conditions. (You can put it in both holes.) As for checking the oil, it should be checked hot/hot and the oil should fully cover two X's on the stick. If you fill the tank to the top of the full mark you will use oil through the breather tubes. The oil should be checked as soon as the engine is turned off. This will prevent the oil from seeping back into the crank case and giving you a false reading.
