Hi everybody. Greetings from The West Coast of Canada : )I am very close to getting a new Uly. Do I wait for couple of moths and get the 08? Or get a brand new 07 for $1500.00 less? What is a guy to do? : )
George.

George,

Do a quick search here or in the "Beasts" forum at advrider.com . There are several threads on this exact subject.

The 07's are great bikes, but the 08's have several significant improvements (20 degrees more steering lock, improved oil pump, improved fuel injection, larger oil cooler, higher redline, no periodic TPS resets required, etc.). The engine updates can't easily be retrofitted to the older bikes.

I'd lean towards getting the 08.

It'll be worth the wait!

Geo, it really depends on your budget. If you can afford the extra $1500, then that's a easy 2-3 month wait. But, I haven't had one problem with my 07, aside from losing a bolt on my front fender. It's nice to have the latest and greatest of any product, but if you can nab a good deal on an 07 when the 08's are in stock, then you might even be able to save more $$$. With the savings from getting an 07, you could buy a lot of aftermarket goodies.

The higher redline would be nice though. I tear through my gears, just because it's such a fun bike, and hit the limiter often. I think it's probably a good thing...keeps me grounded (well at least the rear tire stays on the ground! LOL!!!)

Just my $.02 : )

I think I may go the used route for now and save few bucks. I found an used 06 with all the luggage and only 8k on the clock. This would save me about $5000.00 over a new one with the full luggage.Ride it for couple of years and trade it in on 08 or 09 : )

Geopatr, either way, you'll have a fun bike.

: ) I pulled the trigger on an 2006 demo with the full 3 piece hard luggage and full 2 year warranty. It saved me about $5000.00 over a brand new one.

Congratulations. $5000 will provide lots of funding for riding gear and extended rides, won't it?

Nothing wrong with a 2006 Uly either. Upgrading to the 2007 progressive fork springs does seem to be a popular modification.

My new-bought 14-month old '06 w/ 30k would be traded for an '08 in a flash if I could afford it right now...

Massive pinger to this day, broken bag latches, sidestand recall fix messed up by the dealer, warrantied oil cooler leak messed up by the dealer, warrantied cracked tail light took weeks to get fixed, warped front rotor I just deal with, rattling fan for months my dealer won't warranty until it "breaks", three clutch cable wireforms broken so now I use zip ties, timing from factory too far advanced...

Now it's having charging issues, the output shaft seal is letting oil out, for about two weeks now the shifting is getting difficult with no results from clutch adjustments. And lately when I thumb the starter button my ears are greeted with a "scree-BANG" every couple of days.

Aside from this stuff and more I've had 14 months of exhilarating riding on this bike, being (relatively) stranded only once by the charging issue that will hopefully be addressed by my dealer's third-rate service dept tomorrow.

The '08 looks really good, and hopefully BMC has addressed the '06 issues we've been discussing for months here.

I haven't lost faith in the brand but with what I'm going through with what I'd hoped to be a 100k+ motorcycle I'd do the '08 without a blink.

Just my .02 of course, YMMV.

Xbimmer-Sorry to hear about your problems. : ( i hope I'll have better luck. You know, if I had extra $5000.00 I would have bought an 2008 Uly too. : )
Mine is being shipped on Monday. I should be riding it by the end of the week : )

My son on his XB9s&I just got back from Alaska, what a wonderful trip. Dave from Juneau(RAN) was a great host. Love the Buell's,we have 4 in the family now,it's great seeing more Buell's,power to us all.

Geopatr, wasn't trying to rain on your parade. You're gonna love your Uly.

I'm probably just discouraged because my servicing dealer sucks, obvious problems should be addressed without having to fight it out. Hope your dealer is proactive and appreciates Buells like mine doesn't.

In any case you're armed with BadWeB if any problems arise, you might let your dealer know that!

Xbimmer I feel your pain, what its like to have love a bike and have repetitive and multiple issues. My 06 Ulysses has been by far the worst bike for reliability I have ever had. My other XB Buells have been flawless. I guess your post struck a cord as I am now considering an 08 Ulysses but also don't want a repeat of what I have been through.

We should all contact Xbimmer's dealer to shake him up a bit.

I tested a Tiger a few weeks ago, right before my first decent test ride on a Uly. Since those two rides on the same day all my focus has been on the Uly. I found the Tiger wonderfully smooth, handled great, but just too jumpy around town in the kind of traffic I often find myself. To me the Tiger acted too much like a fidgety thoroughbred in those circumstances, while the comfort range of the Uly extended throughout the riding conditions I took it.
More relaxed in city traffic, but always ready to Go when I was. But as a prospective Uly owner, I've seen where your and others' dealer experiences can make all the difference. Some luck factor at work there that does concern me a bit as a Uly prospect.
