I went to purchase a new Uly for taking me fly fishing but also a decent ride on the road. Couldn't fit on the Uly with my 32" inseam (to wide). This STT is a increditable bike and it does mud too. Helps not having a front fender. Its my dirty little sport bike. | ||

The passenger seat, hard bags and extra suspension travel of the Uly are pretty tough to beat. How are you carrying around your fishing gear? 32" inseam? Are you converting from metric? How are you not tall enough for the Uly? | ||

I have a 32" inseam and I ride a 2006 Ulysses with the stock (tall) seat and don't have a problem with it. I even have the short seat but I feel that the taller one is more comfortable so that is what I use. Have you test rode a Ulysses yet? Don't let the height scare you away from buying the best motorcycle ever made! | ||

I say I have a 32 inch inseam but that is the jeans I buy I could be much less. I ride an 07. I am on the balls of my feet with both feet down. With a little stretching I can get one foot flat but the bottom is about 1/2 inch to the side. Every day I ride the bike it seems shorter. The 07 seat is 31.75 inches to ground. I'm 5'8" tall. | ||

M2nc is probably one of the shortest Uly riders here. His inseam is 29". We have the 07 seat on our 06 Uly and he has logged 20,000 miles on the Uly. Be sure the suspension is set up for you and try the Uly. I don't think many of the Uly riders can flat foot it. | ||

I have a 29" inseam. Can't come close to flat footing, but I can get the balls of both my feet down comfortably. (on the 07 seat) From what I hear the TT is an absolutely awesome bike too though! Good choice either way. | ||

My right foot is usually on the peg when I stop. Guess it is habit for me, with a 30 inch inseam. I have never owned a cruiser, and I have never felt the need to have both feet on the ground. Oilhead beemers are tall bikes, and I couldnt flat foot the ones I owned. If a slope demands my right foot down, I have no problems doing that. | ||

5-6 29inch inseam, I am on the balls of my foot with it, I can do this on pavement. But in off camber, questionable muddy-rocky-slippery surfaces, the ULY is too tall for me. That is why I am running My CityX to the hilt and riding it like a ULY. More surefootedness for me= more confidence on the bike= higher speeds on dirt  Pic in profile | ||

The ability to add luggage to the Uly was the main thing that attracted me to it - otherwise I probably would have just gotten a CityX. I'm riding an 07 with a 29" inseam, you should be able to do so easily at 32". | ||

As someone considering a Uly, I too have been concerned about the height. Here are the issues that rule out the CityX for me. Single person seat. No hard bag option. No windscreen. For me, I want two up comfort for when my wife wants to ride. The ability to mount hardbags so I can take my stuff with me on trips. And the ability to have some wind protection for highway riding. My guess is that I will be able to better adapt to the Uly's height than the issues I listed with the CityX. YMMV. Dan | ||

Dynasport, I'm not sure what other threads you have been following but lowering the Uly about 1.5" is relatively easy and relatively cheap. That, combined with the 07/08 seat, puts you a lot closer to the ground. The simplest and cheapest option would cost less than $200 plus your install time. George | ||

The cityx can carry hard bags, there is a set from H&B 30 or 40 liter Junior bags. The same bag company that builds them for the Uly. You can ride a passenger on it, though they would be more comfortable on the ULY without a doubt. And she gets down off road just fine. Not trying to talk you out of the Uly, its just that there are other alternatives.  | ||

I still like my Uly with TT suspenders, works fantastic, and I still have all of the goodies that I wanted the Uly for. | ||

The CityX will not have the 2-up comfort of the Uly, but... -the windscreen of the 9X is simply awesome! It's so nice and quiet. -the motor is smoother, albeit with less torque, and not unlike the motor of a 1000cc 2-valve Duc. Many people comment on how when riding a Uly, it doesn't feel like there is a bike underneath you. If you like this feeling, then you'll love a CityX...truly feels like you are tooling around on a magic carpet, with nothing underneath you! | ||

You might try crush washers or orings between the cases and the fender washers. If you get in a lot of water or mud, they may seep a bit. I like what you have been doing with your bike, its all about the adventure. | ||

Off to do a big road trip, looking at 9 days, camping riding, and exploring, should be 4000 miles, with over half on back rural unpaved roads. Pics and trip info to come in Storm Fronts. I have bag liners, so I dont know how much water I will be getting in there. I will have to see how wet it gets. |
