I'm pissed, my top case blew open on my while cruising about. I pulled over when i noticed something flapping around in the wind sticking out of the case, it was part of my rain gear. I got to the side of the road and the latch was still locked, yet the latch wasn't holding down the lid. I was able to unlock the latch like normal and then re-close it, but the damage is done.

What i lost:
Rain jacket
key-chain with some keys, mostly old unused ones
a ball of twine
anti fog stuff for my visor
bungee net
headphones
possibly more, but i wont know till i go to look for it!

I had my phone, blackberry, Internet tablet, and other pricey toys back there, thankfully they are still here. Guess I'll be using bungee cords to hold the lid down for now.....

Are you sure you had it latched? I've closed and thought I latched it only to realized it was overstuffed and didn't actually hook the latch when locking. From the way it's designed, it would be near impossible for it to pop open if properly closed. Sorry for your loss.

Which top case? Factory HB or other?

The factory top case needs to be checked to make sure it's latched when it's stuffed. I check it always now... had something similar happen to me. Didn't loose anything as I check, but it didn't latch, but locked. It's pretty common... just make sure you check it when stuffing it.

Sorry for your loose. Now this will give you an excuse to get newer better stuff. Think positive!

Sorry to hear about you loosing your stuff.

Those latches are not very great. I've had two latches fail and lost a Widder Vest one time. I never ride now with bungees holding them closed. I used to carry 5k worth of camera equipment in there but I don't do that anymore. I haven't been tying down the top case, but maybe I will now!

no offense intended but, it sounds like operator error to me. i have had my cases since new and have over 5k on them with no issues with the latches or the bags. i love 'em. sorry about the stuff you lost. i dont think the bungees are necessary.
