I bought a Nolan N102 a week ago and have replaced it with a Shoei Multitec. Here are my observations.

Nolan likes: Built in sun visor. Quick release helmet strap. The N-Com capability. Price.

Nolan dislikes: Noisy. Noise varied based on head position. Chin guard pressed against my chin creating a low pressure area in the helmet. I'm not fat, but at high speed I had "jowel flap". Chin contact was annoying.

Shoei multitec likes: Very high quality. no whistle, lowest noise helmet I own. Very comfortable. Good ventilation.

Shoei multitec dislikes: Price. No built in sun visor. Barely touches chin. I'm no Jay Leno why is everyone shortening their helmets? Still liveable compared to the Nolan.

Hope this helps anyone considering these helmets. Try before you buy and check out the chin room before you buy. Although pricey, I highly recommend the Shoei Multitec.

BTW Gotj has a Multitec on order and he may add to this thread soon.

I hope to post pics of my Uly tall screen mod in the next day or so. It should be interesting. I also modified an Arai XD visor and helmet to hold an Archos mini cam and DVR. I'll try and post that soon too.

Thanks for the info, I've been considering picking up a flip face, since they are very convenient. How about the fitment of the helmets? I've heard the Shoei fits round heads better, and the Nolan works better on Ovals. Any truth to this?

Since I need one that works for a flat head, neither may work for me.

Pauchow, I think there may be something to the Shoei being better for round heads. That is my profile and it is the most comfortable helmet I have ever tried on.

I got another few hours with the Shoei today and it is already starting to "break in" a bit. The chin space has improved.

Also of note is the air flow from the chin vent. It flows straight up on the inside of the face shield and also draws fresh air to the uncovered part of your forehead. I think this is pretty nice on hot days.

Tigrrider, a flat head is pretty cool. You can use the space on top for extra storage!

Many heads, different shapes. I must agree. Nolan's and HJC's fit ovals (me). Shoei's don't fit me. I loved my HJC carbon fiber, but it resonated engine noise in a most peculiar way. The Nolan N102 is a bit noisy from the wind, but I now wear ear plugs anyway. The visor really is the reason for the Nolan. I ride 80 miles round trip to work; east in the morning and west in the evening. For that reason I won't give up the Nolan for anything else.
