I have talked with 2 different dealers about the re-flash of my 06 ECM to 07 and I am getting no where. I would like to not have to mail the ECM to Appleton and be with out the bike for a week or so. Can anyone give me the specifics as to what to tell the Techs to help them do this? Am I missing something about this process? I was told that the computer can't flash the ECM and that I would have to buy a new one. I know I don't have to do this but I don't know enough to get a tech to do it. Thanks for the help. Horr |

It can be done but it requires a 07 VIN in order to perform the task. I was not that impressed with the changes in the 07 ECM. There is a considerable amount of intake noise with the new airbox. If your engine is running well with the 06 ECM I would stick with it. |

Look in the archives for " air box mod" or " 07 ecm flash". This was well covered last fall. I did the '06 airbox mod, 7 - one and one quarter inch holes, no reflash and it runs great. Some that did the mod or went to the '07 airbox had to reflash to the '07 ECM settings to get it to run smoothly. From what I remember you need to first mod the air box, then use a VIN number from any of the '07 1203cc bikes to make the computer reset the ECM with the '07 flash info. |

The latest I remember is that all that has to be changed is the "year" code in your VIN. No need for a whole new number. It's in another thread what to change but I think you can figure it out from the service manual. |

Thanks guys. I told the Tech that he would just have to change the 06 to 07 but he said it cant be done. I think I will just have to pick a week when I will be gone to send the ECM to Appleton and be done with other dealers. Horr |

What the tech needs to do is use your VIN, but change the year digit in it from the 06 designation to the 07 designation - when he enters it into the H-D Digital Tech. I don't have my owners manual with me, but I can look it up (when I get home) and tell you exactly what needs to be changed if you need explicit info. It's just changing a single digit of the VIN when he enters the VIN into the Digital Tech - it fools the DigiTech into thinking it's an 07 model and will alert him that an update is available, then he can reflash it with that update. If I recall it's the 6th digit of the VIN. It's a 6 for an 06 and you just change it to a 7 to make the DigiTech think it's looking at an 07 model. |

What will an '07 reflash do for my stock '06? Get rid of the low rpm stumble? Thanks! |

From what I understand, reflashing the ECM without the appropriate mods will not do anything positive for you. You won't see any gains from it, but you do increase the risk (how much increase I don't know) of fouling plugs. |

Horridus Posted on Friday, July 20, 2007 I think I will just have to pick a week when I will be gone to send the ECM to Appleton and be done with other dealers. Horr Bite the bullet and do it... Took less than a week (including shipping) to get mine done by way of Appleton Buell/HD. The ECM was at the dealer <4 hours, then on it's way back. Thanks Daves! Maybe someone would loan you an ecm; just need to do the tps reset to make any '05 or later XB12 ecm run your Uly. |

The 300+ mile trip I went on this weekend gave me ~47 and ~48 mpg so I am a little happier. Pre 07 airbox I was getting 50 mpg, maybe it will just take a little more time for the ECM to learn a bit more. It may help if I would slow down and let it learn??? Teeps: That is my plan. When hunting season gets here and I need the truck to move a deer I plan to send the ECM out. Maybe I can strap a deer to the bike? No need for an ATV anymore then Horr |
