I was asked on my Homecoming report thread about my NEP throttle lock, so here it is.

I used the NEP only because that is what Daves sent me this past February. This is what it looks like new.

The NEP and the Vista Cruise are not really designed for the Buell, they generally are designed for dual throttle cable bikes, so a little modification is required. I used a band saw and a Dremel tool for the work.

I started by removing my grip from the plastic tube it was glued to. It took a little compressed air and some rolling back. The NEP fits against the switch housing just inside a ridge that is on the plastic throttle tube. I had to cut off the bottom of the NEP to fit the shape of the switch housing. Then drill and counter sink two holes to screw the NEP into the housing.

This was a tricky process to get the fit just right, there was a couple times that I thought I screwed it up, but in the end it all worked out.

I also had to use the Dremel tool to carve out the top portion of the NEP in order to fit over top of the switch housing.

All in all, it works great. As I mentioned in my recent Homecoming report, it was invaluable on my 2800 mile trip. It looks fragile, but it has been fine for five months now. For less than $20, it is certainly worth the effort. Only thing that would be better would be if someone made an affordable throttle lock specifically for Buell’s.

Happy riding!

Looks good. I ended up going with the Vista Cruise one, although it looks like pretty much the same amount of work, although on mine you only needed to drill one hole. Of course I drilled at a slight angle the first time and ended up doing a second.

On the vista cruise, the adjustment range is very small-1/8 turn of the screw goes from slipping throttle to properly functioning to binding throttle. Is that the same case with the NEP?

Once properly adjusted and locktited, it works great for long trips. It's also nice to be able to "signal" with your throttle hand when necessary.

Steve, thanks for the throttle lock installation info. Even a mechanical klutz like me can understand the procedure. There is a bar end device made by Kaoko specifically for a Ulysses with hand guards. The problem, for me at least, is it weighs only about 5 oz. I have the 18 oz bar end weights on my Uly. Thank you again for the info.

Hey beach, get an oring at the local hardware store, and place it between the grip and the handguard. Works like the friction type, and costs about 50 cents. Just roll it onto the grip when you dont need it.
