I have a long and wifey would like better accommodation's to ride with me. I was considering putting a uly rear on my lighting long. I have read of guys putting the lightning long rear shock on their Uly to lower it. How is that working???? I was told it would bottom out on the tire. Is it true? Any suggestions? | ||

Steve_Mackay recently built his "Uly-bolt" based on the TT. The TT suspension does not bottom out on the Uly tail, but it is very close. The long suspension will bottom out. Changing over to the TT suspension and kickstand would allow you to have a straight across bolt -on for the Uly tail, but it is not a cheap swap, unless you can find others willing to swap parts straight across with you here on badweb. | ||

I'm thinking about a lower Uly for my wife, Terri. She fell in love with Steve Mackay's bike when she sat on it at Homecoming. I talked to BudC about it, and he told me that putting the TT suspension on a Uly wouldn't work. You'd have to start with a TT then put the Uly seat on it. Costs would be about the same. I was hoping that the factory would come out with a Low version, but they haven't, yet. (I think that they're missing out on a lot of sales, but what do I know?) | ||

Crusty, A simple Uly low conversion has been posted here a couple of times. Buy an extra handlebar clamp. File the "top" side flat. Remove your stock clamp and bars, fit this clamp upside down. Reinstall bars and stock clamp using longer bolts. This raises the bars ~1" and lets you raise the forks in the triple trees ~1". Install an Ss shock in the rear (I believe just about any non-Uly XB shock will work). This drops the rear about an inch. Shorten kick stand ~1". IIRC, cost with new parts is ~$370. If you get a used shock off of ebay you can do it for around ~$150. According to the factory, lowering the rear this much can result in the rear fender contacting the underside of the tail compartment, but I don't think it's been a problem. | ||

Crusty, Me and my wife(also Terri) and our son Sage talked with you many times during Homecoming. Lower yours for Terri and get her off that Guzzi and buy the 08' for yourself. Actually that Guzzi is a fine looking bike but Terri will feel more at home on a Buell at next years Homecoming. | ||

I looked at steves bike at home coming as well as following the thread on his build. I am not sure if I am gonna mess with it or just buy a uly and forget it. I was going to see if track side or one of the other suspension companys could do something. but again big$$$ | ||

I lowered my Uly using the Lightning Long shock.And in 2 months of riding on mixed roads,it never bottomed out. | ||

Buellish, Is the load capacity the same? Seems like a good solution; too bad you have to give up the remote adjuster knob. | ||

or just get a CityX, put the Scg seat on it, add the ULy front fender kit, and ride the hell out of it  Less money and shorter still, you do loose some clearance though | ||

You also lose the seat to footpeg distance that many riders seem to be looking for. Converting a TT to the Uly footpegs has been looked at and it appears rather spendy and potentially difficult, e.g., moving the brake pedal. I still don't understand not producing a Uly Low when it could be done with existing components> | ||

There are four different seats that will fit on the CityX, that just snap in that will give you step variance of 3 inches in height and distance to the pegs, Skyline (stock), Select seat, Street Fighter seat, and the Scg stock replacement. | ||

The one thing the Uly can do that the others cant,is mount hard bags. There are folks that would love to have a Uly for that reason, but the bike is just too tall. (I know two myself, and another that wont buy because his dealer is an ass) Mr slicker, you prove a point I have made over the years. Almost any bike (butt jewelry choppers excluded) can be taken off road. The limiting factor is the rider, tires, and the plastics attached to the bikes themselves. | ||
