Hi. What's everyone using for their Uly saddle?

I've got 2000 miles on my 07 stock seat. I thought by now I would have broken in the seat or the seat would have broken in my butt. The seat buzzes my butt and puts it to sleep, very uncomfortable. I'm squirming after 75 miles.

Anyone using the Corbin Gunfighter & Lady Saddle on your Uly? They are sure proud of it-$450! I have used Corbin saddles on my last 4 bikes and found them ideal for me. My rear end likes the firmness of the Corbin. The height of the Corbin is 33.5". The stock 07 is 31.8". Thats quite a difference since I'm not flatfooted now. I would hate to spend the $$ on the Corbin and find it too high. It does look like you can slide forward on the Corbin when coming to a stop.

Another option could be the Buell Low Gel seat. Maybe the gel would help me. I don't see the height of gel seat listed anywhere, just that it's lower than the stock 06. I'd rather not use a add on such as sheepskin or a gel pad.

Thanks for your response.

I am interested in finding a flatter type seat. Something more like the TT's, with no ridges, allowing a solo rider to move around a
bit on ironbutt trips, like I can do now on my old R80 GS. Anyone know of an aftermarket seat like that for Uly?

Bob,

I've got an 07 seat and like it fine, but I have tried a Corbin.

My local HD/Buell dealer has an 06 Uly they evidently took on trade. It has a Corbin seat (and several other accessories). I tried it out and it is definitely FIRM. It seemed slightly taller than my 07 seat, but I don't think it's nearly 33.5".

You should check Eor's LONG Uly thread at advrider. He tried the standard, low, and Corbin seats on his 06 (I don't think he ever tried an 07) and wrote about each. From what I remember from Eor's reports, I believe the Corbin is just slightly taller than the 06 low sea, unless they've changed it since 06.

Currently got 2 seats, the 06 low and the 07 seat. I just got the 07 seat yesterday but I've put 500+ miles on it already. Maybe its just me, but it hurts after about 20 minutes of riding. The reason i got the seat was because my 06 low would hurt after about an hour. I'll write my own comparison after i get the other 2 seats, but so far the 06 low is my favorite.

Hi. What's everyone using for their Uly saddle?

I'm using the stock '06 seat. Slipped on a bead seat for the 7 hour trip to my dad's over the July 4th holiday. Worked really well at preventing monkey-butt due to sweat build up.

I am quite happy with the 06 stock seat for long rides, I have an AirHawk seat pad that I tried for the first time on the Uly going to homecoming. It worked quite well. It was a 1780 mile trip over 4 days.

I also have the 06 low seat and it gets uncomfortable after 100 miles or so. I use it for local running where it is nice to reach the ground better at stop lights.

On my way back from homecoming I didn't use the pad because it was difficult enough getting on and off the bike with the cracked ribs and sprained ankles for 730 miles. This was my real testiment to the comfort and ability to move around on the Uly and its 06 stock seat over a really long day!

I really like the stock '06 but it's too soft for me. I also have the '06 Low but it doesn't work for me, too low and weird pressure points.

I currently ride on my '07 seats, they're good compromises IMHO. I wish they were as high as the stock '06 but the contours work much better for me. Lots of room for me and the Missus to move around and any discomfort doesn't set in til end of the day's ride.

I had problems with the 07 seat on a hot day. 50 to 75 miles I was miserable. I rode 430 the other day and I was good all the way between gas stops. I noticed it was a cold day. I have more problems the hotter the seat get.s I am going to order some insulation for it.

I have a stock, excellent shape, yellow and black '06 (tall) seat which I would trade for an '07 seat, if anyone is interested.

I had the 06 lower seat on my Uly for about 8000 miles but I just switched back to the 2006 stock seat. I've kinda got use to the height and it doesn't bother me anymore. When I test rode the 2007 Ulysses this summer, I didn't care for the seat. I don't know how to explain it but it just didn't feel right.

I think you just have to try them and find out which one suits you the best.

I've got an '06 and an '07 seat. For longer trips I prefer the extra seat to peg distance on the '06, but hated the seat position cutting into my legs. I added a sheepskin "buttpad" from AlaskaLeather.com and has comfy for an 850 mile/12 hour ride from Atlanta to the Buell Homecoming.

I've had an '07 seat on my '06 Ulysses for a while, I have no complaints.

For improved seat performance I suggest you consider a pair of bicycle (or bicycle like) shorts. They can be had with different levels of padding, and are way cheaper than a new seat. I find that a thinner pad works best for me on rides longer than 150 miles.

Note: This is very much a "seat of the pants" evaluation . . .your mileage (and butt circulation) may vary . . .

I have been fortunate to never have had ground contact issues with seat height on the Uly . . .even with the preliminary demo experiences. My concern has been for the amount of knee bend on my two replacement joints. After putting in several hundred local miles on both my stock 2007 seat and a stock 2006 (not low) seat I purchased . . .I found the 2006 gave my knees less pain. The '06 was taller and had thicker padding (my scrawny but still somehow flabby butt appreciates this). Soooo . . .

I took the 2007 seat to Dan Ballard . . .a local motorcycle seat expert . . .and had him rebuild it completely. Dan moved the seat pocket back by about 6 inches and rebuilt the passenger area with more support in the rear. He added about three inches of additional padding and installed gel pads in both seat pockets. It was spendy . . .in the same area as purchasing a Corbin (quality issues with Corbin make this an unattractive option for me) . . .AND . . .

I have just returned from a Uly trip to Dana Point, Ca. The return leg was 1042 miles and I did it iron butt in 17 hours. The rebuilt was everything I could ask for. I was able to move around and change position when I wanted, it did not become a "cahones crusher" under heavy breaking and although I am sore (to be expected, methinks . . .more the result of the AARP card in my wallet than any sort of seat issue), I am not irreparably damaged.

As before . . .YMMV and always consider the source. I will be willing to provide contact information for Dan Ballard for any that care to PM me.

Doncasto My biggest complaint was I couldn't slide back far enough when I wanted to. Did the seat height remain the same? I would not want to increase my seat height.

Teeps . . .

The seat is covered with a fabric called "Spandura" . . .it is a waterproof synthetic material that has excellent wear characteristics and is less "slide-ey" than leather. The shinier trim is leather.

Bertotti . . .

Dan can build it any way you want it. Mine was built by adding layers until the height felt right for me . . .with my climbing on and off the seat as it was being built up. Although I would not want to engage in either supposition or false presumption . . .I am sure Dan can come up with a reasonable solution using his several Uly seat rebuilds as a guideline.

I've been using my stock 06 seat now for almost 11K, with beadrider butt beads for the last ~6K. I'm contemplating trying the 07 seat, since I've read passenger comfort is better and the addition of the beads currently have the bike on the tall side.

I use the low 06 seat with an airvent pad which I had on my goldwing. Works great and keeps the heat off the butt.

There seems to be a "stepped" feeling with the 07 seat. For me this was the biggest change over the 06 stock, that and less reach to the ground. I don't know if you get used to it or the seat breaks -in, but it isn't as bad now. So it is a keeper!
