I am currently fast approaching my 10k service and I want to switch away from the Dunlops... I do mostly street riding but I also ride year round and I don't think that I can wear out a set summer type tires between now and November when the rain starts... What tires would you recommend for a 06'Uly that sees about 90% street duty?

I think the best handling tire I have used is the Pirelli Scorpian Sync, the best mileage tires have been the new Avon ST Storm...anything but the Dunshits 616's.

I will be putting my new Avon Distanzia's on this week...had to go with a 160-60-17 in the rear. I don't think I'll miss the .3 difference in width.

I'm told the Diablo Strada's are a great choice for a Uly that only sees asphalt.

I went with the Bridgestone Battlax BT021 on my Cyclone, and really like them! I've got a bit over 3k miles on them now, and they look about half gone.

Why??? If you got 10,000 miles out of your Dunlop D616 tires like I did, why on earth would you want to change?

Well I want to switch because the first rear one was toast at 5100 mi and i doubt that the one that is on the rear now will last too much past the 10k mark... and the front still swims ... ick...

I had no problems with the Dunlop 616s, other than the fact that they wore out quicker than I like.
I put on a set of Avon Azaros, but even though they gave good life,they just didn't work with my Uly. The bike developed a deceleration head shake that wasn't there with the Dunlops, and the Avons just didn't feel planted in turns. I had put Azaros on my M2 and really liked them, but I won't put another set on my Uly.
Right now, I'm running Pirelli Diablo Stradas. They feel good, the head shake went away and cornering is fun again. After 3500 miles, they seem to be wearing well. I'm happy with them.
I ride 95% (or more)on pavement, and ride year round as long as the roads aren't icy.
Since you ride more dirt than I do, I'd say try the Scorpion Synchs.

On the BMW board they are really complaining about the Avon Storms causing head shake.

I have been really impressed with the Scorpion Syncs, I get 6000 on a rear and It will be a while before I find out how the front lasts, 4000 on that so far and it is looking great. These tires stick superbly on dry and they are the best I've seen in rain. They are very smooth.

I agree with Etennuly, I love the Sync's and will probably stick with them unless I decide to do a lot more dirt stuff, or if I get into the track day stuff. In those cases I would probably pick up a second set of wheels for specialized tires.

I ditched the 616's as well, I got 3500 on the first rear and then picked up a screw and replaced it with another 616 and around 3800 miles it was toast too!

I am currently running the Mich Pilot Road. I just put over 4800 miles on my Uly from Texas to Montana and back doing all back roads. I was loaded to the hilt and out side of flatting them out due to the load the tires look like others at just over 1k or so.

I rode through lakes I thought were puddles on the highways and the bike never, ever got squirly and I typically road between 70-80mph on the 2 lane when it was raining.

I ride with a lot of other XB's and I converted to the Pilot Roads due to a friend getting over 10k on the rear on his xb12s.

Good tire!

I know some people don't like the dunlops but, I have over 7000 miles on mine and I ground off more of nubs on my pegs dragging them in the turns last weekend (with the side cases on). They have been good to me.

From the Dunlops I have doubled my mileage on every tire I have put on compared with the Dunlops...I get no head shake with the Avon ST..they have about 7K now...just about ready to go to the scrap yard...

My first Dunlops lasted 4k miles, replaced them with Pilot Roads and am about to replace that rear at 6k miles, the front is fine. Aside from the longevity already mentioned, the bikes handling was transformed as well. I'll be spooning another PR on here in a few days.

I used the Avon Storms as well. Great tire. The center is a harder compound to increase tire life. The edges are must stickier for more...ahem....spirited riding.

I would buy them again.

really??? so you think if I was to change my Dunlops, I could get over 20,000 miles out of my tires? Because I had 10,064 on my stock Dunlop D616 back tire when I had the 10,000 miles service done and decided to change it early since the motorcycle was already in the shop for it's service check-up.

I've never ever heard of anyone getting that kind of mileage out of a motorcycle tire. I only got 15,000 miles out of the stock Dunlop on my M2 Cyclone before I had to have that tire changed. The front tire was the original and the bike had 19,000 miles on it when I traded it away.

I have wanted to change out of the Dunlops also, but when you can get both front and a rear from the local Cycle Gear mounted for under $200.00 why change? They swim a little up front but other than that they have been a pretty good tire.

I just ordered a D616 rear for my ULY for $119 delivered to my door from Motosport.com. I haven't had a problem with the Dunlops. I still have some life left in the orginal rear Dunlop and it has 7,000 miles on it. My front looks new. I'm just easy on the ULY I guess. I'll try something else next time but since the front is still got tons of life I decided to stay with the original. I shopped all over the net to find the best deal. Has anyone done better than $119 for the D616 and if so please tell me where.

Electraglider if you have a Cycle Gear store near by check with them. They keep sending me 20% off coupons and they stock them at about 120.00 for a rear 99.00 front. If you are not on their mailing list it is worth it. They are also real good on returns for gear, you can buy on-line and if you don't like it, return it at their store. Our's here installs tires for 10.00 off bike.

Cycle Gear also will road hazard warranty their tires. My fourth rear and second Sync picked up a piece of steel at about 3k and I saved about $60 on the replacement.

I got over 7k on the first two 616 rears, my rear Syncs look to be 6k tires for me.

The Pirellis won't last nearly as long as the 616's did for me, and I'd bet the Dunlops work better off pavement, but for my riding the predictability and precision of the Syncs outscores the 616's.

they are actually going to be changing tires at the event. Maybe we just need a set of MT60s waiting for us there for when the dirt gets really chunky

I managed to put 500 miles on the distanzias I mounted when I discovered my bearing trouble. I will say they are worlds better than the shinko ravens I had on previously. I was so excited at the prospect of actually riding the Uly again, I didnt really try them in gravel other than on my road.
They sure throw a lot more stuff out of the tread on gravel than all street tires, and roosting your pals will be a snap with them.
