Am I right in seeing that the 2008's don't ever need a dealer TPS reset?

Is this as easy as just adding the 2008 ECM, or is there more to it than that?

It would be great if my 07 Uly didn't need to be taken to the dealer for the TPS.

I think it's a lot more than just the ECM. If I'm reading right, it is part of the DDFI 3 and the new timing system.

From what I'm reading it would be a problem to upgrade since the timing cover is now gone and you'd have to modify the crankshaft to accommodate the crank sensor that's been added for timing.

It says it has IAC (Idle Air Control), so I'd guess it is a change to the throttle body as well. I'd bet this will not be a simple retrofit.

It looks like the Buells are going over to the Delphi engine management system, maybe similar to the Sporty's since 2005 or so, with a 32-2 crank wheel? If this is correct, then a tps reset won't be needed as it may be using MAP (manifold air pressure) instead of throttle position. I'm just guessing here but crank sensors and IAC's sound like Delphi to me.

I am curious to see the throttle body set with the IAC. If it is anything like in the auto field the throttle plate is completely closed at idle and the IAC controls the amount of air (bypassing the throttle plate) entering the intake to provide an idle. So at every start-up why can't the ECM zero the TPS? The thottle plate is closed.

It is my understanding that the DDFI3 utilizes a 1.5" crank pin in 2008 with an integral sensor system to it where as Uly's circa 2006-07 have a sensor in the timing side and a 1.25" crank pin. This, along with the improved oil pump on the 2008, are not retrofittable without major bottom end rebuilding.

The '08 checks crank position ten times more often and more precisely allowing the motor, same machanics sans crank changes, to rev limit at 7,100rpm instead of 6,800rpm.
