Anyone have the Touratech shifter
lever? I want to know how short the shifter lever can get. I have the TT foot pegs and I had to customize a shorter lever to accommodate the closeness of the new pegs. The shorter lever I made has a hard time finding neutral now...not terrible, but a little annoying.

Thanks.

I have mine set at the shortest position, it is approximately 4" from the shifter pivot bolt to the center of the shifter tip. It does increase shift effort a tiny bit, but not to bad. Finding neutral is about the same, but perhaps that is the mileage taking effect.

Thanks. Is finding neutral the same as with the stock shifter or harder to get in now with the shorter length?

It's been a while, so I'm not really sure. I remember the stock shifter being about the same, but I've put on about 8000 mi since then, which may have made it easier. One thing about the TT shifter is that I needed to do a little "fitting" to make it work right. The pivot bolt hole was a bit on the tight side causing the shifter to bind a bit. A little sandpaper wrapped around a socket gave the necessary clearance.

Also I filed a small groove in the lever so the lever didn't hit on the mount with the lever at the desired height. I found this out the hard way when I first drove it to work as I got out on the road and found I could only shift from 1st into neutral once hot.

Paochow, You wrote:

I just measured my stock ULy shifter and it is 4 1/16" from the center of the pivot bolt to the center of the shifter tip. Are we measuring from the same points? If so, the only shortening would be due to the width of the shifter tip. I am looking for more shortening than that because of my size 12 boots.

I pulled out my stocker and took a few pics to show the difference. Not a whole lot, approx the width of the shifter tip.

I had to cut the TT lever to make it short enough to use with their pegs. Neutral was almost impossible to find. I finally resorted to butchering the TT pegs so that I could lengthen the shaft and that solved the problem. I'll probably just go back to the stock set-up.

One thing I did change was to drill a hole through the bolt that holds the lever to the bike and safety wire it as mine tended to loosen up after awhile.

Paochow, Thanks for the pictures. They verify what I was thinking from my measurement.

The above picture is from Touratech and I'm trying to figure out how you got your shifter to look like it does. Is it as simple as drilling new holes? Could it be made even shorter with some (more) cutting?

The holes were predrilled on mine as is. If you cut a little off each end you could shorten it more, at the expense of leverage.

I made my own shifter lever to use with my Touratech pegs. The stock shifter was too long. I modified one to suit my foot with the new pegs. It works great. The only drawback is that I lost some leverage and it's now harder to get into neutral. It gets easier as I get used to it. I just cut the shifter, drilled a hole and filled it with a bolt and nuts. I used stainless. I also used gobs of red locktite. I think I'll have the nuts tacked this winter if I think of it then. The distance from the center of the bolt that holds it to the pivot arm to the toe lever is about 2 5/8" It took about 6 minutes to make and it looks like it. I think it's cute. Probably less than $3.00 invested. Hope this helps someone.
