Like many on the Board, I like the looks of the factory luggage but hate the brackets when the luggage is off the bike. I spoke with Twisted Throttle and they are willing to work with SW-MOTECH to develop the quick release brackets for the Uly but they need two things:

1. A few dozen deposits for orders for the brackets.

2. Someone in Europe near Frankfurt willing to let them work with the bike to fashion the mounts.

These brackets are the ones that completely disappear once the bags are off in about 30 seconds.

The brackets will support current factory luggage plus other luggage like bags from Givi for those that haven't purchased bags yet.

I have no affiliation just would love to get these brackets for the Uly. Is there sufficient interest to move this along?

What's the cost? I like the idea but really don't mind the brackets on it now. I would like to be able to put other bags on if I choose. All depends on the dollars involved and the load they will carry without harm to the bike.

I have a message in to the folks at Twisted Throttle now to get exact pricing. Nearly all similar racks for other bikes run about $210 for the racks. You will also need an adaptor kit depending on the luggage you want to use the racks with. These seem to run between $20 and $35. There are additional options to add locks. You can see examples on the TT site of what the racks look like when they are off. Basically just a few tabs are left behind.

Here is how they describe the racks:

"High-quality, German-made Quick-Lock luggage sideracks by SW-MOTECH. This unique design allows the racks to be removed from the bike in less than 30 seconds without special tools by opening 3-4 quick-release fasteners on each side. These narrow profile, black powder-coated steel racks are compatible with luggage cases from GIVI (Monokey system), Kappa, Hepco & Becker, Krauser, and more."

Makes sense that the pricing would be about the same.....Let's make this happen this looks like it would be the very best system for the Uly. Now who can step up for the modeling at the MOTECH plant?

Was the last post pointed at me? : )

Sadly, I'm about 3 hours away from SW-Motech's facility. Also, I'm perfectly happy with my non-removable Fehling racks. Finally, I can't stand the thought of being away from my Uly for a week or more during the prime summer riding season. : )

However, I will forward this thread to one of the mods on the main German XB forum site (XBorg) to see if there are any interested German Uly riders, particularly closer to Frankfurt.

More to follow soon, I hope, but no promises.

Erik -- assuming you are following this thread... if there is one recommendation I could make to SW-Motech's designers, it would be to make sure the brackets that attach to the bike have plenty of room for manufacturing tolerances.

For example, the Happy Trails racks have precisely located holes that have been problematic for some to mount because they don't line up exactly on all Ulys. The Fehling racks use slots for the bolts that allow for a much greater range of adjustment or tolerance.

Bob,

As you suggested, I have been corresponding with Erik on getting this done. I sent to him the link of this thread and hopefully he can chime in. I suspect that since the Uly's use the Hepco & Becker bags already that the effort to modify the SWM racks will not be too difficult but we'll see.

Thanks for putting the word out to find a bike near the factory over there.

Mark

Count me in! My brackets are pretty bent and with my missing bolts, i doubt i'll be using the sidecases for a while.

I'm also interested. Keep us posted. I just got the factory luggage for the Uly and will install it with blue loctite so I can remove it without a torch or heat gun in case these brackets become available.

I just looked at the Twisted Throttle website, and the brackets they list are only for the side cases. I don't suppose they can fabricate one for the top case, too?

Hi guys,

I've been pushing SW-MOTECH to make Quick-Lock racks (which are compatible with both Givi and Hepco cases) for awhile, and will make a point of it when I have my annual visit to them in the fall (2007). Hopefully we can get them in the development list for release in early 2008. Right now, we've got a few months of backlogged prototypes we need to get out of the way before we can take on new projects. In the meantime, we do have permanent mount sideracks and topracks for the Ulysses for Givi cases. With an adapter plate, you can also use the toprack for a Hepco case. I'll keep you posted!

I posted this on the other thread, but count me in for the quick-lock racks. I'd even be willing to pre-order if that would help expedite things with SW-MOTECH.
