I recently enter two IBA type events. First was an in-state Wisconsin Saddle Sore 1,000 miler. Here are the official results: http://forums.delphiforums.com/MCTourer/messages/? msg=27111.1 It wasn't a race, more of a challenge to see if the rider could do 1,000 miles in 24hrs. I'd say about 95% was non-interstate. The second was the Minnesota 1,000. This was 1,000+ mile scavenger hunt. Collecting bonuses throughout Mn, Wis and Canada. 14 hours into the ride, I was picking up bonuses, following my plan, everything going well. I went into a construction site on CR 16 in Minnesota. Slowed down on the gravel road, turned a corner and went into a tank slapper. The gravel had turned into a massive sand pit. (pulverized grade #5). The workers must have dumped a good 75 yards of that stuff and left for the day. No warning signs either. While fighting the tank slap, the back end was flying all over the place also, I finally lost control and hit the dirt. After an ambulance ride to Virginia, MN hospital, I now have a broken collar bone and my entire left side is bruised. I was wearing a full face helmet and riding suit, w/gloves, boots. I should be OK in about a month. I'm going to miss the Homecoming and the month of July riding season. I guess it could have been worse. I'm going to go back to Northern Minn. and haul the bike back. I think the bike is in better shape than me. Windshield is busted (Parabellum), HVMP end bar came off and the hard bags took the brunt of the blow. Ride safe, Bob |

My prayers are with you, I'll say and extra Hail Mary or two. Get better soon, I just myself found out I broke another disc in my back, the third, only a month after buying my new Uly. gugnheim |

Bob, No shame in being out there giving it your all. Get well and remember all the miles of smiles riding the Ulysses in previous IBA and MTF events. Hope to see ya on the road again soon. |

Dang...broken collarbones suck. I know that from experience. Glad your not hurt too bad and please let me offer my condolences on the crashed bike. Crashed bikes suck too. Make sure it heals back up correctly and i hope you're up and riding again soon. -Rob |

Bob, sorry to hear of the accident. We met and talked Ulys after the Cape Fear 1000 in Wilmington this spring. |

Nothing sucks like waking up in a hospital after an accident. Hope you recover quickly. |

Oh, and I don't quite think this should fall under any "hall of shame" titled topic. At least they could've given a warning or something! |

Bob, we're going to miss you at homecoming! But get healed-up and get back to riding soon! If you get back from up North in time, stop by Ukes on Friday and see Bubba Blackwell. I saw him this last Saturday and he's added a couple of new bikes to his show, I think you would like it. Don |

>> No warning signs either. << Down here that gets you a heap of compensation. Deemed local government responsibility - and if you can prove they have not signposted roadworks the precedent has been set to successfully sue. get well. (Message edited by danger_dave on July 03, 2007) |

Thanks for all of the responses. Bearly, I just read your story about your wife. Hope she has a quick recovery. I'm doing pretty well for an old guy. Bruises are at the ugly stage, but I see improvements every day. Don, I should be back Friday with my bike. I'll try to make it to Ukes for the Bubba Blackwell show. If not, I'm thinking of taking my truck up to Road America and watch the events on Sat. Probably hang around the Buell Hospitality tent. |
