Anyone using the software on a Palm? I decided after this first HD bill all other service will be done by me. 219$ for the 1000 mile service. Maybe that's a deal but I about filled my drawers there and I already new it was going to be that high. I'm really glad I didn't buy a BMW. Anyway I do not use a PC so the Palm is my next best choice anyone using that please let me know how it is working out for you?

If, by chance, you use a Mac running OS X,...

I use a Parallels Virtual Machine running Windows XP and the VDSTS application and a Keyspan USB/Serial adapter. It works just fine.

If you are a Linux user I think that you could accomplish the same thing running VMWare.

I haven't tried using it on my palm because I do not have the cable/adapter to make it work with the VDSTS cable setup.

I do have an older imac but I don't have windows, my mac isn't one of the new intel ones and I was trying not to have to buy windows also. I guess it does give me an excuse to upgrade to a dual core laptop but the cash isn't there for that also. I was fairly sure I saw a reference by somebody using it on a palm treo but i can't remember who. I was going to buy the program from american sport bike that has both palm and pc versions in the chance I do upgrade my computer someday.

I think Maximum uses a palm or some kind of hand-held. Maybe he will chime in here?

Packdog:
I run a Macbook with a bootcamp dual boot to XP. I have a working USB/serial for use with my Garmin GPS V. What are your recs for software and what are some ballpark prices?
Thanks

Gugnheim:
Your setup will be much simpler than mine - you can just boot into XP, install the software and be good to go. You can run it straight from XP and not have to mess with any of the virtual machine software (Parallels, VMWare or VirtualPC) that I use.

Since your USB/Serial adapter works with the Garmin, it should work with the ECM as well. There are some settings that you may need to change though. Those settings are easy to change and the documentation that came with the software explains how to do it, step by step. It uses the Keyspan adapter and it's configuration software for the screenshots and examples, but you should be able to change those settings with the driver software that came with your USB/Serial adapter. My only word of advice is to write down the settings that are working with the Garmin before changing them for the ECM. Since you will (hopefully) be using the software infrequently, just change the settings back to the Garmin setup after you're done with the tuneup. In my particular case the settings were already correct and I didn't have to change anything.

I use the VDSTS software :

I got it from American Sportbike for about $200. I have seen it sold in several places (all of them about the same price), but American Sportbike has a lot of experience and expertise using it (and it's counterpart DirectLink - for remapping the ECM) and they are extremely helpful when I have questions (about the software or anything else!).

My apologies for the shameless plug for American Sportbike, but I had to use the software to troubleshoot a tricky problem and had to do some non-standard and undocumented stuff with the software to find the problem. They really came through for me and offered invaluable support and information, so for this particular product, my $0.02 is that it they are the place to get it simply for their knowledge and support of it.

I use VDSTS on both a laptop and a Palm device. Normally I use the laptop because the screen is larger, and it is an older laptop that has a serial port, so there is no need for a USB to serial converter.

My Palm device is also my Treo phone, so I generally always have it with me just in case I need it while on the road. Again, I have an older Palm phone that can directly use one of their standard serial sync cables. I have noticed that the newer Palm devices only have USB sync cables available. You can get a serial cable for your newer Palm, but they are custom made and much more expensive than the $5 serial cable I picked up on Ebay.

Hey Maximum, what Treo are you using?

I've been looking for a "normal" serial sync cable for my poor, battered and abused Treo 650 and can only find the expensive active serial cables.

Dgunther: I am still using the Treo 600. The Treo 650 and newer use the USB only approach, so you will have purchase the expensive custom cable. I have really been wanting to upgrade to a newer Treo, mainly to gain BlueTooth capability, but my 600 does everything I want it to do (other than BT), so I have a hard time justifying the upgrade.

So the treo uses the palm OS. I had a new treo but it had windows mobile and was real glitchy with the network so I took it back. I am tossed up on upgrading my phone to a treo or just buying a palm. Anyone have any reasons why one would be better then the other for use with this software?
