I made it up to WI from Atlanta yesterday, despite the best efforts of the a$#holes in the Illinois DOT.

If anyone is coming thru Chicago from the south, there is one spot on I-294 where it was down to one lane. Took an hour and a half to go 1/2 mile. Make *sure* you get in the express lane (I couldn't). My clutch was not happy and my idle speed started creeping up to almost 1600 RPM. Pinged like a SOB for a few seconds when I finally got moving again. Never went into skip-spark mode and the clutch seems fine now, so I'm impressed. My oilhead BMW would have melted its own fairing and started knocking badly in the same traffic.

I'll be at the Super8 in Racine Friday and Saturday - look for the Uly with GA plates.

Do NOT ride thru the Chicago area during the day! Or at all if you can help it.<http://www.dot.state.il.us/road/distone.html> I have lived here most of my life, and yes the traffic and road conditions are the worst anywhere.
If you are comming from the south or east, go around the metro area. Your map or GPS may show you the shortest route thru the city, but if and when you get snarled in construction and/or traffic it will take you much, much longer.
The only time traffic is not very heavy is between 10pm and 4am, and even at that time there is construction and lane closures.
If you can't come up with an alternate route, let me know.

folks! don't let the Chicago traffic scare you off. It's not all that bad. I drove to the South loop area last Friday night around 8:00PM and it only took me 1 1/2 hours from the Wisconsin state line to the South loop area which is approx 55 - 60 miles and that was with a Cubs game in the afternoon and the Taste of Chicago opening day.

Saturday, I drove to Lisle, which is the South suburbs and averaged over 70 mph on the tollway.

So don't let the Chicago area traffic spoil your homecoming plans!

I'll be there!

I got this email yesterday.

Hello fellow Buell owners. We’re just a few days out until the 2007 Buell Homecoming. We’re looking forward to seeing you at the various events and hope you’re ready for a good time! We also want to make mention of a special announcement Sunday afternoon. So if you’re making plans to leave early – you may want to hold out.

Safe travels and happy holiday.

See you soon,

Your friends at Buell

Is Chicago still in the same place it was?

Nope, they moved it a bit more to the east.

I got the email that Electraglider_1997 mentions above also. Does anyone have any idea where this announcement will be made? Road America?

2. Is it just me, or is the idea of a hospitality tent with presumably free beer(?) at an event to which we are all riding our bikes kind of a nutty idea? Don't get me wrong, I LOVE beer - as much as life itself nearly, but I don't drink at all if I'm gonna ride.

Perhaps my assumption about the free beer is incorrect?

I've not ever seen beer at Buell's hospitality tents. I'd gander a guess that this year wont be any different.

And IMHO, the mix of free Beer + motorcycles ain't exactly the brightest thing in the world.

>>>Does anyone have any idea where this announcement will be made?

Yes, someone does.

There will be no beer in the Buell hospitality area. If there were, I'd sure hope folks would exercise judgement.

Call me an old fogey but I always ask folks to add an extra 10-15% to their "margin of error" for these types of events.

Bear in mind many folks will be arriving from very long rides, spending the day in the hot sun and generally operating at in the "K Shell" of excitement.

One of the best feelings is when these events come to a sad close as great friends depart for yet another year and everyone gets home safely.

Sounds odd. . . but I'm speaking from experience.

Use your judgement and act accordingly.

P.S. - Where is Ferris Bueller, my Chief Of Adult Chaperonery" when I need him???

You folks have a good time. I wish you clear skies, cool temperatures, and clean roads.

I was really looking forward to meeting the posters from here, and putting faces to the names.

If you havent met Mr Buell, you are in for a treat. Very nice man, and the intensity seems to ooze out of him even when he is relaxed.

If you have a chance to do a ride in the kettle moraine area, go for it, you will be glad you did.

Adrian, Sorry to hear about that. You're right though, sometimes things happen for a reason.

I'm packing tonight and heading out in the early am. I have a family event to attend for a while tomorrow on the way up. Meeting up with Wolfridgerider and others Thursday am in Toledo, then we head on for the Speed Ferry across Lake Michigan.

I can't wait to get started! YEHAWWW !!
