I finally got around to making the blocks for jacking the Uly.

I have read (and reread) all of the threads I could find on jacking the Uly. The Buell race muffler jack points are ~13" apart where the stock can is ~11". If I place one block at the front jack point, the rear ends up where the rear mounting straps are located. This ends up with the rear block about 1 1/2 to 2 inches in front of the jack point marked on the muffler.

Is anyone else doing this with the race can, and am I risking damage to the muffler by doing it this way?

Dennis

I built a block setup specific to the race can, ~13" apart. I would think you could damage the muffler if the boards are off enough as you will be jacking an unsupported area.

Here are a few pics of mine. Let me know if you need the measurements.

Paochow,

Did you use 2x6's or 2x4's?

Nice job, looks like furniture with that glossy finish. Just need to use some pool table felt in the bucket to prevent damage to the pipe's finish.

I made one it's not pretty but it gets the job done.

I finally got around to rebuilding my jack stand cradle last week (after the untimely demise of my first one last month). And as opposed to just using an old bicycle tire tube, this time I want to line it with 1/8" thick rubber.

Does anyone know where to purchase small sheets of rubber?

Maximum,
For about $7 you can purchase an extra heavy duty 20" diameter BMX bicycle inner tube at you local bicycle shop. They use rubber that is at least twice as thick as a normal inner tube, maybe even thicker. My son rides BMX bikes. Or just cut up a Walmart version of a cheap 20" BMX tire. That would do the trick.

I just unpacked my Pit Bull Stands that I got from www.americansportbike.com. They are great. No more leaning the bike up against the garage wall with a floor jack under the muffler! Thanks AL!

I'm a "Made in America" kinda guy. I do have another Chevy Trailblazer in the garage. When I use to jack up my Uly I tried to lean it against my black chevy there, but the car is too low, the Trailblazer is white which marks easy, so I had to used the wall.

Those Stands I got from www.americansportbike.com are great. I can sit on the bike and make buelly noises while on the jacks. Also since you all have talked me into that Micron Exhaust, I can do that work and not used the muffler as well as putting the 07 fork springs I have on order. Sometime it might be necessary to hoist the whole thing up with a engine lift but I don't have space for that.

The stands are quick and secure. The swing arm has little nubs the underside for stand support but the are little too small. So as All suggested I just move it up so as to let the stand rest against lower belt guard since the Uly swingarm is so steep.
(A call goes out to Buell for Larger NUBS)

The front deflects the upper fender just a bit. I you don't like that couple of screws removes it. It doesn't seem to bother it though.

Paochow,

Sorry for the delay. I used 2X6's. The only downside is that it is a tight fit under the Craftsman jack when sliding it under. I end up putting the stand under the can and sliding the jack in under it.

Nice job, looks like furniture with that glossy finish. Just need to use some pool table felt in the bucket to prevent damage to the pipe's finish.

Thanks, I've been using some strips of a old Heavy Duty tube from my DRZ for protection.

Sorry Birdmanh, I think the shipping cost would make it cost prohibitive. I can help you out with making one however. It isn't too hard as long as you have a jig saw, chop saw, drill, sand paper, urethane, and some free time. If not it makes a good excuse to the wife to increase your tool collection.

Bearly: I used to have a pitbull stand for my old CBR. I really liked it, very stable. This time I ended up going with the Craftsman jack as works with my dirt bikes, making it more universal.}

Paochow: Good thought about the dual use of the Craftsman Jack. I could use one for my old KLX650 but I still have an old foot operated two position stand which is a bit hard to manipulate.
