I'm going to do this pretty soon (30,200 miles now) to insulate the wires so it doesn't short.

Manual says drain tank (obviously) and remove swingarm. Fine, but I have a couple questions:

1. Supposed to get a new fuel drain plug. Is this necessary? I know, Simon says, but sometimes one can re-use old parts just fine.

2. What about this "oil line remover" tool? It's a little tool which clamps over the line and springs away the clip so you can slide the oil line off. Is this necessary? Or can you just get a small pick in there and do the same thing?

If anyone's had experience doing this stuff I'd appreciate your comments. Thanks!

Dr_greg,

See this post. This guy says it's not necessary to pull the swingarm:

Yep that was my post on the fuel pump...just remove the lower shock bolt and raise bike...pump comes the rest of the way out... That is the way the smart technician did the job in Utah. Good move on insulating the wires otherwise a dead bike waiting to happen.
