Looking to get an aftermarket tankbag. The Buell one is not my favorite, so it is not my first choice. What have you all used with good results? Thanks.

Johnny,

I'm going through the same process. Here is what I know so far:

* I believe that Wolfman manufacturers the bags for Buell. He has a couple of other bags on his site that will also fit the bike. The owner, Eric, is a great guy and if you have any questions on what fits, shoot him a note.

* Seems like a lot of folks buy the Touratech bag. It is one of the more expensive options but I suspect it is well made and would be very functional. Lots of GS guys use the bag as well if that means anything to you.

I live in Northern CA near a company called RKA Luggage and am going to take my bike over to their shop and see what fits. One of the things that I am looking at with RKA is their offerings of electrified bags with ram mounts. I have seen the owners bike that is set up with one of these and it is very good work and impressive performance. I'm thinking having all my stuff in a bag that I can easily snap off and put away may be the way I want to go.

Mark

Try looking on the web for BAGSTER products,I'm sure you can get them over there (I'm in the UK,it's a Europe thing).

You buy a tank cover(specific to bike(XB)) (tankbra?-you yanks) and then choose from a large number of options for your tank bag(universal)-just be aware that the bag may hit the horn/starter buttons on full lock.

(I have the Dzeta bag on my Uly and it does foul, just choose a narrower bag or make small brackets to stop this problem-idea pinched from net somewhere,I forget where now-can post pics if ness.)

Happy farkling.

I have both the Wolfman tankbag and Bag Connection, from Germany. The Wolfman I've had for about 5 years and works great. I used it on two BMW's (R1150GS and R1200GS) and now on the Uly. I leave the rain cover on all the time and it's still in good shape although faded. Fits great and lots of room. I've used the Bag Connection from Twistedthrottle.com for longer trips and they work well too.

Ok, hate to troll this post, but does anyone have any experience with one of these? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/20LITER-TEARDROP-TA NKBAG-QUICK-RELEASE-MARSEE_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcateg oryZ34354QQihZ008QQitemZ180134228825QQrdZ1

Before I buy the factory one, I want to check all the options out there.

Marsee in general seems to be of higher quality in comparison for about the same amount.

The Marsee bags are great. I do not have this particular bag so I am not sure if it will fill on the Buell. I have a smaller magnetic bag I have had for years and it has been my favorite bag but of course it will not work on my Buell. Marsee used to make a Buell specific bag, but discontinued it. I troll ebay from time to time looking for one.

If you love the magnetic one, I've seen on here or advrider a mod for them. Basically you just epoxy some magnets inside the airbox where the tankbag flaps would stick.

Hello y'all.
This is in response to a request by Mr Bob Sims to see my Bagster Tank cover and bag, hope it's of some use to you Bob (and anyone else).

I did try posting all the pics directly but it got very tricky (I'm a noob to posting pics) so hopefully the link should let you see my rat touring Uly in all its glory.
Apologies to those who originally posted ideas for the panniers and h/bar control gaurds (somewhere on the www)-I didn't take any details to give credit, sorry.

The tank panniers are made from British army 'Burgen' rucksack zip-off pockets and hold 8 cans o'beer in each and provide excellent counterbalance to the fully loaded side cases and top box when touring. I've done a 500mile trip,two-up with fully loaded luggage with no problems at 90mph.

The Tank bag is the DZETA model and I had it from a previous bike (Triumph Tiger 900 (1999) and fouls the h/bar controls on full lock so I'd recomend a different model-the Bagster websites show all the different models available.

I can answer questions if anyone has any, happy farkling now.

Hoon,

Many thanks for sharing the great pictures. As I noted in my PM, I had a Bagster cover/bag on a previous bike, and really liked it because of the way it protects the tank and stabilizes the tank bag.

I remember the DZETA bag now... if memory serves, it was designed for the big trail bikes with huge external tanks (ie Tiger, R1150GS), so it makes sense that it would be a bit too big for the smallish XB air filter cover.

Of course, the Bagster system also remains really expensive -- about 2x the OEM tankbag, or similar traditionally-style tankbags.

Bob

Hello,

Found the source of my 'anti-tankbag fouling brackets' ideas and they're a lot neater than the ones I actually got round to making in the end.

Anyway this guy had some great farkles even if he don't ride no Uly.

Cheers
Hoon.

I have a coretech that has a 3 fastener setup, instead of hooking the front straps to the forks like the instructions say, I just ran all three under the airbox cover and hooked them togeather, so it kind of looks like the same setup as the Buell, but the bag is much better, a bit smaller. I found that the buell bag was too ugly to use, I hated that it was always formed like it was full even when it was empty
