Take heart tall distance riders it looks like a great windshield is on the horizon. Mark at California Scientific is working on a screen for us 6’+ guys. He is in the development stage and it will be a bit before he will finalize a design. The good news is he is working on this and I can bring him a bike for fit and test. I am sure it will be ready well before the end of summer.

I constantly ride the freeway at 80 miles an hour. A short screen is fine for a short blast but 6 hours down I-5 and I have had enough. Even an hour to San Francisco into the prevailing on shore wind is not fun. I like to have still air on my face shield. When riding through fog it keeps the face shield clear. You need a tall screen to make this happen. I tried the Parabellum and found it to be unstable at 80 and above; particularly when you introduce a cross wind. The Cal Sic will be solid and stable. I look forward to seeing the final product.

I am 6'5" and read with great interest. I am still running the factory short screen and running at high speeds for any amount of time takes a huge toll on my neck.

Keep us posted.

Yeah, me too.. I'm right at the cusp of 6' and after this weekend's ride (1200 miles in 48 hours) I sure can use a tad bit larger screen. I love my Zero Gravity, but I wish for a little wider and maybe 2" taller or so, with no flip at the end.

Hopefully Cal Sci will be the ticket.

I know that up to about 6'2" should get good coverage. At 6'5" I would say that you will need an extra 2" on the screen. In my opinion the mount set up will be able to handle the extra hight. The stability, hight and screen angle are things he is working on. I certainly will let you know how it develops.

I ordered their tall screen yesterday. Just got an e-mail from FedX with tracking #. Now that's good service. I hope the screen is a good as the fast service. Of course, in the Ozarks, standard service is one mule pulling the wagon.

I'm very interested.
It'll need to be rated to 100mph continuous speeds tho. All of Montana was 90+ last trip!

Ozarkdennis,

Is this the new screen being referenced or current design?

Is the current tall screen from California Scientific the one being worked on or are they coming out with a new one at the end of summer?

The current one I guess. I'm 6' so I don't need a real tall screen.

I have the Buell tall screen; I am 6' and it gives so/so protection to torso and head in the breeze. Very stable up to 120 mph.

I'm 5'8" and the Buell tall screen keeps the wind off my chest but my head gets it full force it seems.

This is the same screen but mounting is changed. He will look at adding a couple inches to the height to get it tall enough for us tall guys. No worries the screen will be stabile. I have a prototype on and she is fine up to 100mph. Distance between rider and screen on a tall screen is an issue. He installed the screen in a different way on Thursday. He moved the angle up to give more room, this created some buffeting. The distance between rider and screen is great but the air flow is not as good. He recommended I play with this angle to find the optimal compromise between room and air flow. I hope to have time tonight to play with this. I think the answer is to move the whole screen forward a little and angle it up slightly. This will keep the extra tall screen height from being too close to the rider. These are all things Mark is aware of. He is looking at a completely different way to mount. He is very concerned about quality and customer satisfaction. Once he is finished I believe that he will have a fine product that works. Moving the current tall screen up 2” and using the top fly screen mount by modifying the 4 OEM mounts is how it is set up now. This means drilling new holes for the mounts. There is also a brace from the center of the handle bar cross bar to the screen. With out this upper brace the screen is not secure enough. This also allows angle experimentation. Doing this makes the screen better for the 6 and under crowd. Mark is trying to find the optimal place and way to mount the screen and be able to add a couple inches. More to come

I'm considering ordering one of their existiing Cal Scientific shields...

I'm 5'8" - would the Large, Medium, or Short be best?
