I've been searching for luggage and almost pulled the trigger on the HB hard bags. Then I realized that I didn't want to clutter the look of the Uly when I didn't have the bags on. After searching and checking out the other hard bags I decided to wait awhile. Then today while out for a ride I stopped in a local bike shop and saw a set of Oxford Luggage panniers. They had the smaller Humpback set there but that made me think. They let me try it on the bike and I liked the look and the idea of a clean bike when there wasn't any luggage on it. I then did a Google search and found a larger set of Oxford called the sport panniers. 65 liters each. I had an Oxford tank bag on my Boxercup R1100S and really liked it. It also has a lifetime warranty, can't beat that. So I ordered the Sport Panniers and we'll see how they work out. | ||

I have had soft saddle bags before and they do work, just not great. If it rains you have to cover it up and the covers are flapping and I was always waiting for them to blow off. The cover is only waterproof for a while and then water seems to find its way in somehow(nothing like wet drawers when you get to your camp site). The cost and look of hard luggage is a definite draw back but the hard luggage will spoil you on a trip. Good luck and lets us know how it works out with some pictures. I have had some Oxford bags and they do make some great products. | ||

Chris, I pack everything I want to stay dry in dry bags and put them in my panniers. Even in the Jesse Bags on my R1200GS. I've been through some storms that the water got through the seals. So I don't think that will be an issue for me. Yeah, the hard bags are nice since you can lock them but I've found that I'm too lazy to take the hard bags off when I don't need them. | ||

I was given a set of the oxford humpback sports - very happy with them on the CityX, and with a bit of experimenting, I was able to find an easy mount location that didn't require mods to the bike, or bags. The bigger bags should be a nice match to the Uly. chris in tn - the oxford rain covers are quite tight: no way will they blow off, even at freeway speeds. they are also highly rubberized, and BC interior/Pacific north wet weather has yet to get inside mine, even on longer trips...ymmv, of course, but as with hard cases, soft luggage isn't all the same.  |
