A while back I posted pictures of the install of my new Autocom intercom system. And I was very pleased with how it came out, that is until "Lorazepam" so nicely pointed out to me that I had mounted the Autocom unit in the back where the Bank Angle Sensor recall would be, if I had taken the time to have the recall done. Here's the previous thread: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142838/278233.html Anyway I finally moved the Autocom unit a couple weeks ago, and yesterday finally had the BAS recall done. The unit now slips between the battery and the fuse box.
And the FRS/GRMS radio still fits nicely in the very back next to the BAS install.
Now the farkle world is back in proper order again! |

Excellent install! Looks like that spot was made for it. |

I have an autocom (I like it for my Garmin, with xm radio and also radar detector)and finace' just got a Scg. She was running my old cb type set up on her BMW but it is worn out. I was wondering how you liked the FRS radio? I am thinking of getting an autocom for her and then perhaps going with a FRS/GMS radio system instead of cb for us to use. |

Finally did my first test of the FRS radio system last week while convoying to the mountains with with some people in a car. It really worked great up to about a mile, which I was pleased with since the radio was stored under my seat. Plus, when we all got to the mountains I was able to pull the radio out for hiking. I have not tried a CB system, but this seems like a pretty easy way to go! |

Maximum, Which FRS radio did you go with? We get a lot of bleed/interference on ours. Install looks GREAT! |

I went with the Cobra LI 6500, which I purchased off Ebay for about $50 or so for the pair. http://www.cobra.com/index.php?page=shop/flypage&p roduct_id=490&id=1 They do work pretty good and I am impressed with the sound quality. I would rather have a set with a 12 volt dc plug option, that way I could plug them in under the seat for those all day rides. This model has a power port, which is also the mic/speaker port. So when I plug it in, I have to pull the connector out by one notch to work correctly, but it does fine like that. |

Do you need to run an Antenna? I know nothing about FRS. |

I did not use any external antenna. I'm sure that you could get much better range with an external antenna, but a mile or so of range with the radio neatly stored under the seat is good enough for me. |
