I just went for the first long ride since installing my Zumo. I have the short (stock) shield and I noticed some high speed turbulence that I don't ever remember having before the install. Has anyone else had this happen? I plan on changing the mounting angle but I thought I would check here first

Thats interesting...I was wondering about that very issue when I was contemplating adding the Zumo. It does seem likely that it would change the air flow if you mounted it out on the bar by the mirror. I would like to mount it low in the center even though that is not as good for viewing.

Turbulent? There's not a laminar patch of air on a Uly.

Do think you are getting undesirable bar inputs because of the buffet, probably not, right?

It's kinda hard to say without seeing your setup, but rest assured that the stream lines coming off of a Uly are already pretty chaotic, and there's little you can do to make it worse.

Ignore it, and it will probably go away.

Do you think it might be because you are tipping your head down and to the left or right?

I can't imagine the Zumo causing ANY discernable turbulence.

If it's really bothersome, PM Etennuly. He'll hook you up with a B.A.W.

I have the Zumo with a Zero Gravity shield. Just completed a 2,400 mile week and noticed no difference. Have a Schuberth C2 and noticed a whistling sound when I glanced at the Zumo. Figured the wind was hitting the face shield at a different angle.

I'm going to try move the Zumo and see if that makes a difference. I'll move it down and forward. I really don't want a B.A.W. now that summer is coming!

L-je, I find the air on my Uly to be pretty smooth. My other ride is a Kawi Concours that has a full fairing and a B.A.W., and I find that even though it protects you from head to toe, where the air does intrude it exhibits more turbulence than on the Uly.

For the most part I ride with the stock windshield and I am very pleased with the way the air goes over and around me. For my size, body shape, and positioning it is very smooth with no buffeting.

The BAW is an experiment that is evolving with the emphasis on very cold/wet/nasty bug conditions. It does work. It has its draw backs and benefits. From what I'v seen over the years though, is that every windshield is a compromise of some sort.

When ever someone has tried to encourage me to think "outside the box" my reply usually is "what box?"

We could, however, go beyond the GPS with the BAW and install the X_Box, Satellite control box, 27" TV/DVD/XM, with surround sound and boom box, and still not have a problem with turbulence! Oh yeah....I think we could get the recliner behind it too!

A rough hand calculation will show that the BAW is almost turbulent while sitting still!

The BAW challenges the very limits of elementary fluid flow.

My only guess is that the BAW catches the air by surprise, and by the time the air figures it out, and can form turbulent eddys, ETennUly's head has already passed by...leaving the air frustrated, and seeking a victim somewhere in the wake!

Do not follow ETenn too closely, or you could be a victim of turbulent, and highly agitated airflow!

I rather think the air just gets pissed off trying to figure it out, or tired from trying to get around it!

This thread seem to have been hijacked...sorry!

I have a gramin 376C on the left side and to balance the air flow I have a passport radar detector on the right side. I havn't noticed anything unusual.
