I will start with saying that this is how this bike should be from the factory. Not because i can actually touch the ground, but the handling charecteristics changed dramatically, for the best. Before the bike would go through corners and not really inspire much confidence, now it goes into a turn and does the turn until you decide to get out of the turn, the front just feels much more planted. the whole thing just works better, it works much better on the bumps also. I am guesing that the difference starts with the fact that the rear shock off the TT is slightly longer that the Uly, in comparison to the front. In other words the bike is a bit more leaned twords the front. I really canot say how much I love it. Does it drop the bike, yes, 1 inch, which is enough for you to touch the ground comfortably, not flatfoot with both feet, but when I have my foot on the rear brake the other foot is flat. If you look at the bike not next to another Uly you will not notice the difference until you sit on it. Also I really notice the difference when I get on it as I am not straining soo much to swing a leg over it.
I did missquote the price before, I had said the parts were 1300, well it turns out the dealer ordered the tripple clamps also, not that I asked for that, but they did on their own. You do not need the tripples ( I had them return them and credit me).
The total was slightly over 1000.
Personally I find this a bargain.
The forks actually look better tha the Uly ones, they have more adjustments. The rear does loose the preload adjust knob, there is a ring on the shock instead.

All in all it is really fantastic!

That's the first time I've heard that said about the Uly. Are you sure you had the suspension set properly? Mine's rock solid.

The forks actually look better tha the Uly ones, they have more adjustments.

Huh? The Uly is adjustable for compression, rebound, and preload. What does the TT suspension have that the Uly's doesn't?

Not knocking your mods, just curious about some of your statements. Pictures are required...

Mine corners like an evil bastard. If it's that much better, I don't think the corners could take this mod.

I know my tires couldn't. ;)

When Cavi says "(the TT forks) have more adjustments"...I think he might mean that they can handle a lower minimum rider weight.?.

I've been riding my Uly around town w/o bags this week. Even with the suspension set on the <=170# settings, I think I still need to back off the compression a bit more. I'm 150# with full gear.

I wouldn't give up an inch of ground clearance. Even as light as I am, I swear I routinely use up all but 1/2" of the stock clearance.

I like my Tall Uly and its handling. And I came off a Firebolt last. I'm glad mine left the line tall that is why I bought it.

Cavi,

That is great.

Although personally I love the way the Uly is stock and I would not do this to my bike, for those who don't need the ground clearance or who want to be closer to the ground this is a great option to build a custom fit Uly for a very reasonable price.

You can't beat these Buells for parts costs!

Cavi-I am glad you are happy with your mod.'s. It is always a great feeling to take a good bike and make it better for yourself.

Glad to hear you like it.

As the others have stated I would like to see photos and would like to understand your statement about more adjustment.

For me the remote preload is a must on a bike that I use with different weight configurations including 2up use and trips with luggage.

Your statement about how this is the way the bike should have been built is interesting. I think you bought the wrong bike. The bike you wanted is the TT.

It always cracks me up when people buy a bike and then try to make it a different bike...in this case however I really think you would have come out cheaper by buying a TT and changing the foot controls.

Oh well, it is your bike. Have fun.

I think he did go the cheaper route, I remember looking at the X foot controls and they were really expensive. then if you want to add the X windscreen and the tail section so you can do 2 up rides and use the givi bags he deffently went the cheaper route by just changing out the shock and forks.

Cavi- bring on the pics!! I know it might not be much to look at since you said it was only an inch but we all love to look at pics instead of doing work.

Interesting mod.

What will you be doing with the original suspension parts?

Hey Cavi,

Can I buy your old Uly forks?
Ping me offline with your price.

I think Cavi's dealer originally sold him the Buell Blast with ULY stickers. Now that he's got the suspension he'll need to buy the engine.

electraglider, my engine leaves nothing to be desired, if this is a Blast engine then I would have to see what your bike came with, mine has 1203cc, plenty.
As for pictures, next week I will have them, as for the more adjustability, it looks like the front forks also have high speed compression on them, in addition to the normal low speed compression. I might be wrong, as I still have not looked at the TT manuel, but the adjusters on the fork sure look like the high and low speed compression.

I've been thinking of doing the same mods to my Uly. My wife loves my Uly, but it's too tall for her. The idea of those hard bags with that comfortable seat is really attractive to her. If putting the TT suspension on a Uly would enable her to ride a Buell again, it might be worth the extra cost.
Of course, if we wait a couple of months, Buell might just release a lower version of the Uly, and save us the trouble and expense. (It's what I'm hoping)

Cavi,
I was just joking.
Crusty,
I think you should wait until the July(?) dealer's show to see what new models and such are exposed.

I rode my Uly down to turn in my MX visa today and had a startling surprise while waiting in the line for Customs. Couldn't flatfoot, only tip toe. I had forgotten to switch the suspension back from the GVWR settings I used last week on my California trip. Now I know how those less of limb feel. I feel your pain.

Cavi,

I was just laughing at E-gliders's joking.

Crusty,

We had another whole thread about a Uly for the wife, I'm waiting too.
