I turned 1600 miles Saturday so I figured it's time to do the 1000 mile TPS reset. (I already did the 1000 mile fluid changes myself). Found a tech at Goe HD in Angleton that's pretty savvy on the Buells. He checked the TPS, told me it was way out and would have to be ridden by their Supr. until it went to close loop. They did it all and set the idle. What a friggin difference! That thing is ssmmmmoooottthhhh!! And I thought it was pretty good before. Cost: $31.00.

Also, I notice today my fan wasn't coming on after about 30-40 minutes of riding. I thought the thing was broken. We stopped for a bit and it came on at shut down. We went riding again and it didn't come until about 45-60 minutes into the ride. WOW! Not used to that, and it was 80-85 F today!

On a sad note though, I saw my first tube framer at the service dept. Saturday. It was an '02 X-1 with the Liquid Lightning paint kit. (63/100) Sadly, that thing has been thrashed to an inch of it's life. It has been down more than once. Parts were scuffed and bent and stuff, but it's still going. Still has the Diamond Plate undertail I made for it 3 years ago.

Happy riding

What was your Uly doing before? Was it surging? Mine is surging really bad. I had a jardine pipe on it for a while and didn't do anything to compensate for it and it started surging at low speed. I'm installing on of Odies Special Ops mufflers and putting in the race ECM, doing the air box mod and replacing the stock air filter with a K&N. Will I need to have the tps reset and will it smooth this thing out?
How much difference will there be in power? I know that is a subjective question but I know some of you have done these same mods. What do you think?

I forgot to mention my Uly is backfiring on deceleration big time.

Mine was surging some between 2-3K, but good up top. My bike is stock and probably going to stay that way for a while. After the reset, it smoothed it out tremendously. There is still a small amount of surging, but above 2200 it is smooth and crisp. (as crisp as a 40 year old airhead 2 valver can be) I try to keep the revs between 2500 and 4000, rarely going above 5000. I may sound like a geezer, but that's far from the truth. I still ride briskly and split cars but that's where that engine shines (2.5K-4K) The TPS should be reset regularly per your schedule.

You're right it is a really neat engine I just want it to be a little smoother. I love the bike though.

Race ecm will need the TPS reset.
Install race ecm.
Reset TPS.
Then install or do other mods one at a time.
Either way you will believe there is a hp increase.

Radegast,
thanks for update on good local Houston Uly service. Mine was in for 1000 mile service at another local dealer. TPS reset was on the work order due to low speed stutter - they reset it but it still stutters at low speed. Also had an oil leak, which was determined to come from a push rod tube. Took them two weeks to fix. Next time I'm heading down to Angleton.

Ulytx,
Goe Kaw/HD/Buell is a decent mom and pop shop. It still took 3 hrs, but it was first-come-first-served, as is every Saturday. If you go there the first Sat of the month, they do a big BBQ with Burgers, dogs, beans, etc. It's great.
