I'm going to make a front mud flap for my Uly. Similar to what the 1970's Huskys used to use on the leading edge of the front fender. I think I;m going to use an after market dirt bike front fender and cut it to fit the existing Uly front fender. This should keep the mud and water spray off the headlights. Anybody have any suggestions or opinions?

I had planned to find some stiff rubber, or some plastic to extend the tiny lower fender. I look at the top "beak" as more of a decoration, or sail, than I do an actual fender.

I did some muddy dirt roads the other day and was surprised to see both headlights caked to the point the light wasn't doing anything. Dumb fenders! I'm going to take an after market Indian chief fender and put it over my wheel so you can barely see it! No more mud!

When conditions are less than ideal, such as being on a strange road at night, in poor weather, 3 states from home, you will say more than "dumb fenders".
When someone pulls out in front of you because they didnt see you due to the headlight being coated with crap, because the current front wheel decoration doesnt work, you will say more than "dumb fenders".
I live on a gravel road, not quite a half mile, and the headlight as well as the bike can get covered with crap before I hit the pavement after it rains.
I find it a pain in the ass to have to clean the headlights when I need them the most.

I live on a sandy dirt road and also find myself thinking my head light has burned out or something only to realize it is cover with filth and just needs a scrubbing to be bright again.

wow lorazepam way to take a kind hearted thread a tad too close to heart. Don't know what you are trying to say other than I am an ass for noticing my lights get covered with mud. If that is your intention than ok, thats fine, but it doesn't change the fact that my lights get covered with mud. They are dumb fenders, they should keep mud off my lights.

Terrible,
I think he was just agreeing with you, except he thinks it's bad enough to call them worse than dumb fenders.

I was agreeing with you. The front fender is mainly for looks, and not much function. It just adds to the adventure of the ride, sometimes too much.

I was looking into making a fender that actually does what a fender is supposed to do, but the price of admission to have an injection mold made is out of my league.

yeah I'm sure it is outrageously expensive. I wish touratech would make a fender addition or replacement like they do for the GS's, as I plan on muddying up my Uly as much as possible.

My plan is to take an existing after market dirt bike fender and cut it to mount to the stock Uly front fender as an extension. I want to do it so it looks good as well as being functional. I'll post some pictures when it's done.

There is a reason the headlight is all taped up, with a cover on it.

It looks like he is trying to smile

I remounted the original down to the existing lower gaurd (fender to you) and that has solved the problem completely.

As I enjoy the Mad Max style rat bike look its handy 'cos it means I don't need to do any cleaning at all-bonus.

I don't go off-road (no suitable tracks/trails near me-mores the pity)so there's no mud build-up/clearance problems.

Post a picture when you sort it,I will post pics of mine when I eventually learn how to do it(I've got an archive building up slowly-expect a large post!)

Still enjoying the site,it's nice to have a site which is interesting for us 'overseas' visitors(It's better than the UKBEG in my humble-sorry fellow Brits)
