Hey Guys,
Had the Uly for 3 weeks now and have done just over 2,000 miles -I'm absolutely lovin' it. Took it up to Scotland fro a weekend which was great, a lot of motorway (highway to you lot) miles, a good amount of seriously twisty Scottish roads and a few miles of easy off road tracks.

Took them all in it's stride, but I have a slight niggling problem. The front end, it feels vague at higher speeds, anything over 70mph induces a slight, but noticeable weave, or vagueness at the front end. It's never gonna turn into a tank slapper, and it doesn't feel dangerous but it is a little disconcerting.
I've checked the tyre pressures, stiffened up the suspension a little (settings according to the manual and my weight plus about 20lbs) and asked the dealer to check the head race bearing at it's first service, but it still feels the same.
The symptoms are there irrespective of the road type, or whether I'm going in a straight line or round bends. It doesn't matter if the road is pool ball smooth or bumpy as hell it feels the same on all of them.
My dealer said he's felt similar things on their demo bikes and suggested it could be the tyres - the tread pattern of the Dunlops causing a little 'lift' at higher speeds and lightening the load on the front end. Does this sound feasible to you? I guess it's possible, and the only way to tell would be to fit different, more road orientated tyres next time, but that'll have to wait until these are worn out. Which won't take long, I;ve got a weekend blasting around the Peak DIstrict next week, then on the 18th I'm off to the French & Italian Alps for 10 days to really find out what this bike's about.

I had some dreams they were clouds in my coffee
Clouds in my coffee, and...
Well I hear you went up to saratoga and your horse naturally won
Then you flew your lear jet up to nova scotia
To see the total eclipse of the sun
Well youre where you should be all the time
And when youre not youre with
Some underworld spy or the wife of a close friend
Wife of a close friend, and...

...and now for a useful answer...

My stock front Dunlop wandered a bit at higher speeds. Switching to the Avaon Azaros (replaced recently by the Storm) totally eliminated the problem. The Avon, IMO, is a far superior tire to the Dunslop.

then on the 18th I'm off to the French & Italian Alps for 10 days to really find out what this bike's about.

I'm jealous. We demand pictures!!!!!

There is a documented issue with your exact problem, people have solved it by changing out tires, specifically Buell going to the scorpion syncs. Try those out or pretty much any other perelli that comes in the right sizes. Should correct the problem according to other posts I've read.

I had the same thing on my 06 with dunlops. But after I adjusted every piece of the suspension according to the manual the problem went away. So I love my dunlops, 6 or 7k on both original tires and plenty of tread left!

The dunlops are probably the problem, but too much rear preload can magnify the problem as well. If you dont post pictures, you will be shunned.

Ok thanks for the replies, seems like it's the tyres then. Can't be throwing away good rubber so I'll just have to wear them out over the mountains

"But after I adjusted every piece of the suspension according to the manual the problem went away"

I tried that, very carefully adjusted everything and it made no difference but thanks for the info.

Pics pics, tried uploading some but they're too small if I reduce them to 71kb. How can I post pics linked from another site?

Edit: Let's see if this works now I;ve just read the 'how to do it' bit!

Couple of pics overlooking Loch Awe on the West side of the Highlands. We found a nice dirt road to explore.

You might also want to have your head bearings checked for proper torque spec. Mine was loose at 1,000 miles and, with the D616's, can aid in the vague feeling.

Muppet,

My bike felt the same way with the Dunlops. No worries though, it is not dangerous, just a little strange feeling. After a while I got used to it.

My Dunlops also wore strangely and I had to pull them before they were fully worn because they were cupping badly.

The Pirelli tires completely got rid of that "wandering" feeling.
