I have a customer that is taking his Uly to Panama and he would like some input on tires, primarily gravel roads and lots of pot holes he says.

Thank you

The Distanzia's or Pirelli MT-60's are the way to go for extended off pavement riding. The mileage on the rear MT-60's is pretty low though. Murraebueller put a set on and went to Mexico and back and loved the tires, but said the rear was completely worn out at 2500 miles and Pirelli said he was lucky to get that much from it. The Distanzia's aren't as off-road oriented, but they are probably the second best choice for off pavement riding. I believe the mileage is supposed to be better on those. Both tires only have a 160/60 rear, but they mount and run fine because the height and profile is very close to the 180/55.

Yeah gonna have to live with really short tire life for off road tires on a 5.5 inch back wheel. Or whatever it is it is too wide to get better than average use out of aggressively treaded tires.

MT60's are good to go.

I found a combo that works well for me. the MT60 up front and a D616 on the rear. D616 doesn't clear mud as well as the MT60 rear but the higher mileage is a good trade off for me. I left my MT60 on the front because I was to lazy to swap it out when when the MT rear wore out. I did get 3500 out of the rear MT 60 but that was all the way to the cords.
The combo handles great on the gravel roads. I'm not the greatest road rider in the world so I couldn't tell you if the different compound tires handle good or bad on the road. I can still take a posted 30 MPH corner at 65 if that is any help.
