Seeing the thread about carrying fishing equipment has given me, or at least refreshed a crazy idea I have in my head. Has anyone toted a bicycle on the back of a motorbike? I've seen one or two instances where this has been done. I ride to work, rain or shine. I want to carry my mountain bike to work since my office sits right on the trail. So I'm looking for some way to rig my mountain bike to my uly so that I can go ride after work. Anyone have any ideas for how to rig this up? |

I've toted a 21 inch BMX bike, but nothing the size of a mountain bike, would have to hold it horizontal to keep the big wheels off the ground. |

I see a lot of home grown solutions, but nothing that's a standard issue item. I'm going to dig a little deeper and see if I can't come up with something. Has anyone else here wanted to do something like this? L, thanks for the links, it has given me a few ideas. I'm contacting a guy I know at Rackoutfitters.com here in Austin to see if what he can come up with. If I get motivated enough to put something together, I'll throw some pics up. |

I have thought about this matter too. My concept would be to mount something like the Draftmaster hitch rack so that the bicycle would be essentially vertical behind the rider. For larger cruiser bikes, you could actually use the rack after installing a 1 1/4" hitch. Schuett's Big Rack mounting system looks like it could be adapted for this purpose. Two loops would be attached to the passenger footpeg mounts. One would be about 45 degrees toward the rear and the other about horizontal. A plate would come off of the upper loop and attach to the "beaver tail". The bicycle tray with the quick release at the top would attach to the lower loop and the plate. Use the Draftmaster approach to carry the front wheel. This is obviously a rough concept, not a design but maybe you or your contact at Rackoutfitters could develop it if it seems workable. Keeps us updated, please. |
