Had this on another bike and just tried it out on the Uly. Works real well and is a breeze to attach to the "beaver tail". I can flip it up for the back rest function and this tail bag works perfect becuase of the way it loads. The bag has two side pockets but the main compartment is accessed via zippers on the large end, so in the back rest position it is a top loader Couple of pictures...

Hey, Dave....like it a lot! You knew I would! Only got about 100 miles in on Sunday and took the wife on a 2 up ride and she loved it. And that is after we did a ride on Saturday on the K120OGT. She told a buddy of mine that has a K12 as well that she liked the ride of the Uly much better. '06 seat is a tall one but I can flat foot it, may buy the '07 seat just for to try it. It was warm on Sunday, as you know, and the bike ran real well for just having 1k miles. Fan ran constantly once it activated and I must say it does have quite a high pitched whine....anything that sounds that stressed out is probably going to grenade at some point...now I know why you carried and extra....so I've read all the threads and would like to try some of the methods used to cool her down a bit and see if I can get the fan to at least cycle. Right Side Scoop is at the top of the list but I can't seem to find the source for the one that is made of plastic to match the left side. Gotta ride your way soon. Also, have to do the BAS recall. And my initial thoughts after properly setting up the suspension is that I would like to have the '07 springs for the front |

Firstbatch, Great news about the Uly making the grade. I put a carbon fiber right side scoop on mine and it looks good even thought it doesn't match. I planned on getting a left side one to match the CF one later. The RSS and synthetic oil is a good choice for this part of the world. I would put at least 3K on the engine before going to synthetic. Well I hope the new owner of my Uly likes it as much as you like yours. I have 50 more miles on the KLR before I can tach her up and I can't wait. Looking forward to riding with you soon. |

For the right side scoop that matches, contact Rob at r.crins@gmx.net (Robertoxb9). |

Thanks Stew...Rob got back to me and looks like his RSS product has evolved very well. That mod now goes to the top of the list. |

Run a 40wt oil either 5, 10, or 15w and you will see the oil temps drop down to where they should be and the fan run much less. Several of us are using it and finding the difference is big. I'm one of the few that the difference has been phenomenal with. I do live in the desert and see drastic temp swings from day to night and 20w-50 just isn't right for it. There are several AZ riders running 40wt and have proven it does an excellent job so don't go thinking that you need 50wt for your climate because theirs is hotter. Once your over 100 humidity makes no difference on it being hot or not. |

Jm, I was in Phoenix, AZ during bike week and I passed a orange Uly on that same side of the City. Could that have been you? I met a rider with a lightning long at a car show there and he had a stock right side scoop and he said his ran well in the extreme heat around AZ. |

I actually live in NM so it wasn't me, but I have been in contact with a few different AZ XB riders of all kinds over the oil issues. I sure wish it had been me though. Would have been a lot better than being here at work. |

wow -thanks for posting that Firstbatch (FB is taken ) I didn't realize how spoiled I was with my RT's big-ass built in glove boxes and my tank bag. I can't bring myself to stick a tank bag on top of that already too-high airbox cover. I need something like this bag so I don't have to cram everything into my pockets. And I was super curious about hanging anything off the back of the beaver tail while it is in the up position. Thanks for confirmation that that is possible. |

I use the Ventura bag from american sportbike on my Uly. It works great! http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-p rodshow/5758.html |

Atoms, it is really a sweet tail bag. The bag holds it's shape real well. ANd for $75 it is fairly priced. T 13 liters the size and shape are real good for every day riding as you say without the need for a tank bag. And I can still swing my leg over the bag to mount up. When it comes time for a longer trip gotta go tall and the Ventura looks like it would be great. Per liter the Ventura is a deal at $150 for 45 liters. Wish I had that one right now as we are all packing up for the OBX rally this weekend.

Nags Head Bike Week....mostly a HD thing but I'm sure there will be many other bikes as well....weather is a little iffy for Friday but Sat and Sun look good. IF the weather looks poor I'm thinking about going the other direction to Danville and the Moto ST at VIR. Talked to Kevin Drummer yesterday and his team is entered. THe race is on Sunday and starts at 9am and ends 3 hours later at noon. It will be interesting to see who makes the most laps...probably be about 100 at VIR. You thinking of going to either one? Bet you would love to go to OBX and do some fishing. |

I have to stick around here on Saturday but plan to ride Sunday. I have made it to Buxton and back the same day on the Uly and fished for four hours but it is a long day. Danville is closer. I will check with some of the guys here and see what direction they plan to ride. I got to watch the superbikes practice at Daytona last month and it was pretty awesome. They go twice the speed of the stuff I play with. Keep me posted. If you go west down 360 I would like to see the new Uly. Burkeviile is 10 miles from the house and would be about time for coffee from Richmond. |
