Hey there, I have a 2006 Uly with 450 miles. My fuel mileage has been about 135 miles until the fuel light comes on as long as I've paid attention...about 2 tanks worth. Is this normal? Do you think a TPS reset at my 1000 mile check up would help me. The bike is stock. Any advice would be appreciated. | ||

The numbers I'm reading is 45-65mpg, 4.4g in tank, so it should theoretically give you at least 200 miles... From reading as well, it seems the engine works better (power, economy, noise, roughness) with time, so maybe you'd need to wait until the 1000 mile mark... | ||

Once you get it broken in the fuel mileage will improve. I usually average about 50 MPG, and my low fuel light comes on around 175 miles. | ||

I get between 140 and 160 miles before the fuel light comes on. Just depends on the duty cycle. Cruising on the freeway 70mph to 80mph(indicated) my Ulysses gets 50mpg. | ||

Depending on where and how hard I am riding, my Uly gets between 42-62mpg. On the ride to work its more like 45 mpg which comes up to 150-160 miles to the reserve light, and that leaves 35-37 miles to fill up before you run out of gas. My best was 201.0 when the reserve light came on. I was following my wife home. She was in the truck and I was behind her most of the way on the bike. We rode city, highway and freeway. I was really afraid that the light bulb had blown because I was passing 200 miles and still in the country. Sure enough as it turned to 201.0 the light came on. That was a little better than 54mpg. My best was riding on the parkway with some other Buellers. We were in the mountains so anytime you pass a gas station and you are closing in on your range you stop. So since I was riding with little XBs, we were at 119 miles and stopped for gas. I put 1.91 gallons of gas which came to 62.54mpg. My personal best. | ||

I feel better now. Most of my riding is backroad and not a lot of straight line, constant speed riding. That may account for some of the low gas mileage. (Message edited by andrejs2112 on April 19, 2007) | ||

That may account for some of the low gas mileage. Have you actually calculated the gas mileage you're getting? I wouldn't be surprised if the low fuel light came on with different levels of fuel in the tank on different bikes. | ||

Andrejs2112, It is my opinion that the Uly engine takes around 2000-2500 miles to fully break in using conventional oil. Your fuel mileage should improve. If you have trouble with warm engine restarts, fouled plugs or puffing black smoke I would look for an over rich condition. It is also possible that your timing might be late but as long as your engine is pulling strong I would not be concerned. | ||

I get about 150 miles before the light comes on and its always about 3.5 gallons to fill. | ||

I get around 155 - 175 before light comes on. Light comes on at 3.5 gal on mine. The difference comes from how I am riding those few days. If alot of quick accels then the miles reduce. average between 45 - 50 mpg. Mine is mostly commute time. I am on my way to Chicago with it from Alabama at the end of the month. Will test out the long haul mpg then. | ||

I average 139 til light. I'm happy with bout 40 mpg with average highway speeds of 90 mph. I've gotten significantly better mileage short shifting on the side streets and keepin it below 80 on the freeway, but it makes ridin no fun. | ||

I get 140 on winter gas and 185 on normal gas before the light trips. Your station could have some left over winter gas on the pump since high octane doesn't turn over as fast as regular. You will see an improvement soon just from the gas change alone. Winter gas is evil and another way for oil companies to rake in big money. | ||

How many gallons did you put in it? The light can come on early - I think heavy braking or downhill will do it. I've filled it with as little as 2.7 gallons after the light came on, but today it took 3.4. I can't really say what's normal since my Uly is just under 1000 miles. | ||

My light comes on at 3.7 gallons like clockwork. Not sure where it is supposed to trip, but the few times I have filled up when it just trips is always right at 3.7xx. I have put as much as 4.1 gallons in it after riding with the light on hoping a gas station would appear soon. Talk about sweating it. Nothing will stress you like starting to run out of gas with no station in sight and the wife on the back end. Today, the light flickered on and off a few times and I put exactly 2 miles on the low fuel odometer when I pulled in for gas. The odometer was at 189.0 and took 3.704 gallons. I always fill it right to the top of the tank hole that you can see inside the cap hole. Above that is the expansion chamber and will just drain off any excess you might have put in or from expansion in the sun which I have seen a few times. |
