Okay, after much reading I ended up ordering the Buell taller screen, I just want to move the blast off my arms and up a bit without destroying the air around my head. I also saw the zero gravity, but the Buell one seemed to have a bit of a tip up which I thought would help. do both work well? Do I need new hardware for either?

The tall screen from Buell comes with all the hardware needed to do the install. I run it on warm dry days and change to a Cee Bailys 16" for rain and long trips. I have never used the zero so I can't help you with that one......

From what I heard you don't want the buell tall, apparantly that flip up causes some pretty obtrusive buffetting which is quite irritating while the ZG screen is perfect, does exactly what you said while not buffetting at all.

Are there different sizes for the ZG screen? If yes, which one works best for someone 6'1" and 32 inseam?

Hey Wolf,

You calling that little 16" thing a windshield?

That's not a windshield.

The ZG only comes in +4 and puts the blast at my neck with no turbulence at all. 6' 32" inseam. The consensus on here seems to be the Buell windshield causes serious turbulence.

I just purchased a Uly a couple weeks ago and I'm 6'3 the wind hits me right in the neck. I have looked at a few different options for an aftermarket windshield but so far haven't seen any that really look good. Any advice?

I am 6'2" 33" inseam. Compared to the stock screen I like my Buell tall. The bike is much stabler over 55. I weigh 225 and have pretty wide shoulders. I think the stock screen causes me to transfer the buffetting to the front wheel through my arms. The Buell tall screen does not. Does the lip on this screen cause some turbulence? Probably, but I still prefer it over stock.

This is the biggest windshield ever in the history of all windshields:

I didn't like the Buell tall windshield (I'm 6'2"), but the guy I sold it to (shorter than me) loves it.

Got the ZG(smoke) on my Uly and it works great and looks pretty nice too.I bought 4 extra screen pins so I just leave em in both screens for easy change out.

Sanchez,
Where did you get that windshield? How's it ride with that thing on? I like it. Does your gas mileage suffer?

Actually that is mine. It is 3/16 plexiglass approx. 36" x 36". I made it for cold nasty weather riding.

It has very little effect on how the bike rides, it's more like how you ride it. All windshields change the feel of the bike you put it on. There is no direct wind hitting me at all, the top is right at eye level with the stock seat and I am three inches below it with the '06 low seat.

There is 0 buffeting, the windshield will shake a little in a cross or head wind. On the interstate I can go to sleep behind it at 80 mph, trucks don't bother it as much as I thought it would.

There is a nice balanced air flow that comes up from the front angled part of the fuel tank so things don't fog up. It is much easier to stay warm behind it, 40F I was wearing summer gloves.

The gas mileage went down about 1.5 mpg. I took it off right after MBIV and don't have any plans to reinstall it until next winter.
Unless I go to Florida during love bug season again.

Overall it works great as a windshield. I had planned to cut it down as I adjusted for its function, however it worked better than I expected as it is so I never did cut it down.

The drawbacks that I see with it are that I cannot stand up, so that really limits off road riding, and it makes my bike that feels like a Corvette more like an SUV. On twisties, like the Dragon, the edge of the windshield gets to sawing back and forth in line with my view, making it difficult to pick spots and focus for fast cornering. It is also a little closer to my face than I would like, about 6" with the stock seat and about 9" with the low.

Damn...talk about wind-assisted steering!!!

I'd hate to see how that thing does in 40-50 MPH gusty crosswinds like I went through this weekend in the central valley coming back to the bay area from Yosemite.

I was packed with camping gear and was pretty stable compared to my buddies on other bikes. My windscreen is stock. Sure I eat a few bugs but hey---that's just part of riding a motorcycle.

I have the Buell tall and have stopped using it due to the buffeting. I am 6 ft with a 32" inseam using a Shoei RF1000. I am using a Laminar lip on the stocker for now, works well with no turbulence. Kinda a pita to clean. I am thinking about cutting down the tall to about half the distance to the stock height and installing the lip. This might give a bit more protection to the shoulders as the tall is wider. If that doesn't work I will do a ZG. I have noticed alot of wind be deflected up from under the handlebars, no windshield will fix this to my knowledge. I wonder if the Buell tankbag will help.....

I rode a bike with the tall one on it and it buffeted my helmet so bad that I could not even see.

The B.A.W. pictured above has that air movement you are talking about from between the bars and the front of the tank. I ran about 400 miles with my tank bag on and about 600 without. The bag does keep the air from blowing up under your helmet, if that is what you mean, but the air flow is still present.

I am going to make a set of lower deflectors to mount off my windshield below the turn signals when I put it back on. I'm going to try to make it adjustable because some air flow is good, too much is not good, and I'm just guessing, but none could be a problem too.

I couldn't imagine what the B.A.W. would look like after a long run through love bug infested areas, until I saw a picture of one of those early "furry" stunter bikes.

I think the love bugs will give the BAW the look of a solid barn door. That, however, has to be better than wearing and ingesting those numerous acidic little splattering bastards!

If you are going to use that BAFUW, you need to add a bunch of chrome to that Uly

BAFUW? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder......or behinder in the case of the BAW where the bugs cannot get you.

Clearly what that windshield needs is a big chrome skull in the middle! And maybe some fringe.

Yes, I'm working on locating the washer jug now and I am having a little difficulty locating the control stick for the wiper/washer system from a GM car.

The tint strip across the top will be chrome and have the BUELL logo cut in it.

My wife has fringe hand grips on her bike, that is as close as that will get!

installed my zero gravity yesterday and took it for a spin today. Deffinitly love it. I can see no logical reason that Erik Buell should not use this windscreen as the stock one and offer the shorter one as an option. It changes the bike completely. The wind on my arms is gone. It does hit the top of my sholders, but still 1 million times better than stock.

Cavi,
I've been asked to test an adjustable bracket for the Uly by Mark from Madstad Engineering. At 6'4" I have been bashed by buffeting since the beginning. I ran a Cee Bailey that was discontinued a while back. It worked great up to a point when the buffet would set in - 70+ or behind certain cars / trucks. Thought that this was the best option. Now with the adjustable bracket in place and the stock screen, things couldn't be better. Mark is making an over sized screen to further test the brackets to take some of the shoulder air off me as well. The thought is to have something like the Zero which does not have the turned up lip. That's where I was getting the most buffet from. Just tore me up. Got worse with the brackets, but way better with a stock screen. Once tested, these should help some of us taller folks.
