I have looked all over the eastern shore of Md. looking for the loctite or permatex that is to be used on the oil drain plug. No one over hear carries the stuff nor do they know how to order it. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks | ||

I picked mine up at Auto Zone. I don't know if you have them up there. I'm not sure of the number on the package but is a thread sealer from Permatex. Seems to work well. I will look at it to see the package details. | ||

Thanks-I tried auto zone, advanced auto parts, harware stores, NAPA,etc. They had different loctite and permatex but not the number cited in the shop manual. | ||

I got mine at NAPA they didn't have loctite but stocked the permatex version. It is permatex thread sealant px #56521 | ||

S palmer: This is interesting. I went to two NAPA stores and neither one knew what I was talking about they looked into their catalogues and said that they have neither the loctite nor the permatex 56521. They sound like the service mngr at the Hardley stealership where I purchased my bike. | ||

From the description on the card, it's basically teflon thread sealant. I rummaged around in my toolbox and found some teflon sealant intended for pipe-threaded joints. Available just about anywhere (auto parts and building supply stores, etc.) and works fine. This appears to be a "belt and suspenders" situation. The o-ring on the plug should be completely capable of sealing oil-tight (up to a couple of hundred PSI at least) without any sealant. The main purpose of the sealant is evidently to prevent the plug from vibrating loose and backing out. | ||

For what it's worth, I have 12,000 miles on my Uly, change the oil per spec & have never lost the plug due to vibration. Oh yha, the point being, I never used loctite even once for the oil or tranny plug. Save your $12 for fuel. | ||
